“Y/N?” Shouto called as you stared angrily into your locker.
“Huh? Yes?” You yelped, slamming your locker hurriedly as you looked at him.
“Are you ok?” He asked suspiciously, his mismatched eyes studying your face carefully.
“Yes, yes I’m fine Sho.” You said quickly, pursing your lips together as you stared him down to make it look like you weren’t trying to hide anything.
But unfortunately it looked EXACTLY like you were trying to hide something.
“Why were you talking to Dabi?” Shouto asked you bluntly.
Just hearing his name got your heart racing again.
“Uh, umm he needed help… he NEEDS help, sorry… with his homework…” you lied. “Fuck man these lies are just adding up!”
Shouto narrowed his eyes as he maintained eye contact with you.
“Yep. Homework.” You confirmed again.
Shouto hummed but didn’t say anything then nodded as he walked past you. “Ok, let’s go.”
“Sure.” You replied, happy that you had curbed his suspicions for the time being.
You both walked to class and took your respective seats.
No sooner had you sat down you felt the presence of Dabi as he walked behind you over to his chair and sat down in the seat beside you.
You refused to look at him but you were painfully aware of him, every little sound he made was keenly heard, your body drawn to him.
“That’s a good girl.” You heard him say in a low calm tone, “keep your attention on me.”
“How did you know I was tuned i-.”
You were about to say “how did you know I was tuned in to you…” but realizing just how strange it sounded and how it would be something he wanted to hear made you slam your mouth shut quick smart.
You tore your eyes away from his and focused on the front of the class, some movement in front of your eye drawing your attention.
Shouto was looking back slightly at you and Dabi and you blushed heavily before dropping your head.
“Ah shit he saw us talking!”
You heard Dabi chuckle deeply from beside you and you glared at him from the corner of your eye, confused. “Interesting…” he muttered with amusement as he observed Shouto.
“What’s interesting?” You thought.
“Y/N?….” Shouto asked softly as you two were sitting under the tree at lunch time.
“Yeah?” You replied in a tired tone, your head tilted back against the tree trunk.
Avoiding Dabi was getting more and more difficult and today he had been particularly drawn to you which was frustrating.
“Do…do you like Dabi?” Shouto asked in a small, vulnerable voice.
“WHAT?!” You screeched, dropping your sandwich in shock. “Aww man, my food.” You frowned sadly at the sandwich in the dirt. “W-why… why would you ask that?” You asked the duel haired heart throb.
“He’s been paying you a lot of attention and… you seem to be reciprocating.” He stated objectively.
“N-no! No no it’s nothing like that!” You replied, “I’m not interested in him in the slightest! He just-.”
Your phone rang.
“Hold on a sec Sho…” you said as you pulled your phone out to see who it was.
Dabi was calling you.
“Shit.” You panicked. “Uh, it’s my mum…” you lied, “I’ll be back.”
You got up and ran a short way away and answered the phone.
“Can you NOT call me?!” You seethed into the receiver.
“Get me a coke and bring it to the roof.” Dabi commanded.
Seizing the opportunity you replied. “Is pepsi ok?”
“Very funny,” Dabi retorted dryly. “No more stalling, see you in 3 minutes.” And with that he hung up the phone.
“This bitch.” You growled internally, running to the in-school vending machine and buying a coke before running to the roof.
“You’re late.” Dabi stated as you ran up beside him and dropped the coke can into his hand.
“Screw you.” You puffed. “I’m not your fucking-.”
“Pet?” Dabi quipped, finishing your sentence. “Yes you are. Now sit.” He commanded and pointed to the spot on the bench next to him.
“No. I don’t want to sit, I’m going back down t-.”
“Sit.” He barked firmly and in a huff you plopped down next to him, crossing your legs and arms and refusing to look at him.
You sat there seething in silence as he sipped his coke, not looking at you.
“Here.” He said finally, reaching into his pocket and handing you a $5 note
“The drink was only $2.” You replied sharply.
“Go buy yourself another sandwich.” Dabi said bluntly.
“What?” You asked, confused.
“Go. And buy. Yourself. Another. Sandwich.” He said slowly, punctuating after ever word. “Why is that so hard to understand?”
“Why do I need- WAIT?! Did you see me drop mine?” You asked in surprise, looking at his side profile as he continued to sip the coke.
“Would I be giving you money for a sandwich if I didn’t see you drop it?” He asked sarcastically, finally tilting his head to look at you as he leaned towards you.
His face was super close to yours and you looked away quickly while clearing your throat.
“Ok. Thanks.” You mumbled as you hopped up and left, just wanting an excuse to get away from him and stop your heart from racing.
You quickly bought a sandwich and made your way back to Shouto who was still where you left him.
“Is everything ok?” He asked as you sat back down.
“Hmm?” You hummed inquiringly but you were still thinking about Dabi. Suddenly you realized you had been asked a question and should probably reply. “Oh, yeah, fine.” You said as you bit into the sandwich.
“With your mum?” Shouto pressed, watching you from the corner of his eye.
“Hmm?” You hummed again, looking at him, confused for a bit. “Mum?”
“Yes?” He replied, turning his face to look at you better. “She just rang you…”
“She…OH! UMM, YEAH FINE!” You yelped, “not gonna be home, late working something like that… no biggie.” You said with a nervous laugh. “Fuck man… these white lies are gonna catch up with me if I’m not careful…”
“Come over to my place then…” Shouto says softly, looking away quickly.
“S-Sorry?!” You asked in surprise.
He cleared his throat. “Your mother isn’t going to be home till late so come over to my place for dinner.” He said, slightly more confidently.
“Oh!” You said with a blush. “S-sure, that would be nice.”
It’s not like you hadn’t been over to Shouto’s house before, in fact you had been there heaps of times but the more you caught feelings for him the harder it was to go over and chill without feeling really self conscious.
