There was a moments silence as Kageyama came to accept Hinata’s confession as the truth and his keen eyes studied the bubbly orangette to try and determine what the next move would be.
Hinata was the first to clear his throat.
“I uh…I’ve never been in a gay relationship before so I don’t really know what to-.”
“That’s fine, neither have I.” Kageyama said stiffly, cutting Hinata off before he could finish.
They once again, stood there studying each other.
“Ok umm, well I guess, that’s all I wanted to tell you…” Hinata said shyly.
“Date me.” Kageyama blurted out suddenly.
“Y-you want me to d-date you?” Hinata gasped softly, his eyes sparkling with excitement. “I mean, you want to date me??”
“That is obviously what I meant, Hinata.” Kageyama replied dryly, covering his embarrassment with his sarcastic reply.
“Yes!” Hinata said excitedly, his face lighting up instantly. “I would love to!”
“Good.” Kageyama replied, averting his eyes and blushing. His heart was racing like he was about to go into a tournament, he had never in his wildest dreams thought that this would ever happen between him and Hinata.
“Should we keep practicing?” Hinata asked suddenly.
“I think we should rest.” Kageyama replied curtly. “You’re always pushing yourself.”
“Is…that your way of saying you care about me?” Hinata asked timidly, looking down at his feet and fiddling with the bottom of his shirt.
Kageyama couldn’t take any more of Hinata’s cuteness and grabbed him into his chest for a hug without saying a word, holding him tightly.
Hinata was surprised at first but then quickly wrapped his arms around Kageyama’s torso and snuggled into his new boyfriend, inhaling his scent deeply. He turned his head and looked up into Kageyama’s eyes, smiling his gratitude.
The stoic setter gazed into Hinata’s left eye, then his right, glancing down at his orange haired boyfriend’s lips before clearing his throat and looking away.
Hinata saw what had happened and quickly leaned up on tippy toes and gently kissed Kageyama’s cheek.
“W-what was that?!” Kageyama spluttered.
“Gotta catch me if you want to return it!” Hinata squealed cheekily before letting go of Kageyama and dashing off.
“Get back here!” Kageyama shouted, trying to sound angry but failing.
He bolted after the orangette as the nimble spiker ducked under the volleyball net and took off across the court.
Kageyama, being taller, had a longer stride and easily caught up with Hinata, grabbing him by the shirt in an attempt to pull him up but Hinata, feeling his shirt get snagged in the taller boys grasps, quickly ducked to the right, pulling Kageyama off centre and overbalancing him.
Kageyama skidded and slipped, yanking Hinata back and the two boys fell in a heap on the floor with Hinata laughing freely.
“Got you now!” Kageyama growled with a smirk as he wrestled his way atop Hinata and pinned him down, straddling his hips and pinning his arms beside his head.
“You’ve definitely got me.” Hinata chuckled with a bright grin.
Kageyama smirked and leaned down slowly, his nose brushing Hinata’s as his lips gently grazed the orangette’s.
Hinata let his eyes flutter shut as Kageyama’s lips met his.
It was a slow soft kiss, Hinata wasn’t expecting such gentleness to come from a guy like Kageyama but the minute they started kissing he knew he definitely wanted to get to know this guy better. There was obviously a depth to the stoic setter that he had overlooked.
Kageyama tenderly brushed his tongue against Hinata’s bottom lip, asking for entrance and Hinata parted his lips, their tongues dancing and tasting each other as the kissing session started to pick up the pace.
Hinata let out a soft grunt of approval and Kageyama pulled back so he could look at the spiker beneath him, a thin trail of saliva connecting their tongues as they parted.
“I’m not one for compliments but that was good.” Kageyama said lowly.
“You’re critiquing my kissing techniques now?” Hinata asked with a cheerful yet cheeky smile. “We need to work on a kissing quick attack!” He added with a chuckle.
Kageyama snorted softly with amusement. “Funny.” He said as he sat back and released his grip on Hinata’s arms.
Hinata did a half sit up and wrapped his arms around Kageyama’s torso.
“I’m really happy we’re more than just teammates now.” He said with a giant smile.
“I’m glad.” Kageyama replied as he hopped off and helped Hinata up.
The two of them packed away the net and volleyballs for the night then headed back to their room.
“I need a shower after that workout.” Hinata said cheekily with a wink and Kageyama’s face flushed slightly.
“G-go.” He said, averting his eyes and waving Hinata into the bathroom with his hand.
Once Hinata returned, fresh, clean and in his pajamas the two prepared for bed.
“Goodnight Hinata.” Kageyama said from the top bunk as he lay on his back, staring at the ceiling.
“G-goodnight Kageyama.” Hinata replied softly.
There was a pause before Hinata cleared his throat.
“Umm…Kageyama, c-can I sleep with you … tonight?”
Kageyama’s heart started pounding in his chest. “what does he mean by ‘sleep’?! Does he mean he wants to…”
“I… just want to cuddle…” came Hinata’s reply, almost as if he read Kageyama’s hesitation.
“Oh.” Came Kageyama’s reply, Hinata smirked slightly because it almost sounded like the taller boy was a bit disappointed. “Yes, come up here…” the setter added.
Hinata quickly got out of bed and jumped up onto the top bunk, crawling over Kageyama and snuggling into his side, sandwiched between his boyfriend and the wall.
“Better?” Kageyama asked in a low raspy voice as he kissed Hinata’s forehead.
“Perfect.” Hinata sighed and closed his eyes.
Within minutes both boys were out cold sleeping peacefully in each other’s arms.
