“Awwwww, my boys.” You replied when you got the text. “How long did he sleep for?”
“Umm, about 10 minutes…” Hawks replied.
“That’s definitely not long enough.” You sent back, “good luck with that.”
You two chatted a little more, then Hawks excused himself to go and eat his lunch and heat up Hiyoko’s food up.
Hiyoko was getting hungry by now so Hawks pulled the baby food out of the bag and put it in the microwave, he figured he would be better off feeding Hiyoko first, then, having his own lunch afterwards.
He heated the baby food up and stirred it, making sure it wasn’t too hot because he didn’t want you to get any more points under your belt if Hiyoko sneezed it everywhere.
“Ok buddy, ready for lunch?” Hawks asked as he walked over to the mat.
Hiyoko was squealing with excitement by now. He knew what the sound of the microwave ment and he was STARVING.
“Hey, hey,” Hawks laughed as he sat down and lifted the bowl up out of reach of Hiyoko’s chubby hand. “I’m coming I’m coming, just wait a minute.”
He bought the bowl down from above his head and was about to start feeding Hiyoko when he remembered he should put a bib on the bub first so food wouldn’t get all over his clothes.
“Bib, bib, need a bib.” He mumbled as he leaned over and looked in the bag for one.
As he leaned over Hiyoko grabbed onto the side of bowl and tipped the contents into Hawks’s lap, some of the contents splashing his chubby face as well.
“SHIT!” Hawks yelped as he flicked his wings to get up quickly.
Hiyoko burst into tears at being covered in food and Hawks quickly got to work cleaning them both up.
Thankfully you had put another set of clothes in the bag, so he changed Hiyoko, again, and then looked for more food.
“I’m sorry buddy, we don’t have any more food but we have rusk sticks?” He said apologetically as he pulled out a stick and handed it to his boy.
Yoko took it in his hand and started nomming on it hungrily.
The less he got from the stick the more he whinged and in the end Hawks had to share soft parts of his, now cold, lunch; which he did so with a LOT of reservation, as it was his favourite food, chicken.
“I hope you appreciate how special you are, that I would share my chicken with you.” He said as he gave Hiyoko a look.
After lunch Hiyoko wanted to explore again and set off, pulling himself around the room while Hawks got another paper finished. That was now 2 papers done in the entire day where as normally he would finish more than 15.
Yoko was flapping his wings more and more and a few times he managed to lift off the ground and crash into something again which kept Hawks on his toes.
By 3pm Yoko was starting to whine and cry for no reason so Hawks put him in the baby backpack and walked around the room to get him to sleep but Hiyoko fussed and struggled to get out, trying to free his wings so he could try and escape.
“Why won’t you just fall ALSEEP ALREADY?!” Hawks groaned after trying to get Hiyoko to sleep for the past 45 minutes.
Then he paused.
“Oops… Y/N, did say I’d say something like that… didn’t she…”
Hawks shook his head with a sigh.
“She certainly knows her boy well.”
Just then the receptionist returned.
“How are you going Hawks? Can I take Hiyoko again?” She begged.
“YES, PLEASE!” He said desperately as he took the backpack off and handed it to her. “He needs to sleep, so just strap him on and walk around until he passes out.”
“Oh! Sure!” She replied as she put the back pack on and adjusted the straps. “I’ll have him asleep in no time.”
“Thank you.” He said in a defeated tone.
She smiled and left with Hiyoko who shut up the minute she walked into the hallway, there was so much to see that he completely forgot to whine.
Hawks quickly sat down to do some more work and the phone rang.
He groaned as he reached for it.
“Hawks here.” He said in a dead voice.
After a long, useless phone call, he then tried to do some more work.
He had just picked up the pen when another colleague walked in with more paperwork.
“You have GOT to be kidding me.” He deadpanned.
“Hawks, I’m back!!” The receptionist called cheerfully as the colleague left and she entered the winged hero’s office.
“No.” Hawks said in a tired, broken voice, “no please, please take him for a bit longer, I really need to get-.”
“He’s done another poo.” She said apologetically as she turned side on so Hiyoko could smile at his daddy from the back pack.
Hawks burst into tears as he flopped his head down onto the desk.
“A-are you ok?” The receptionist asked with concern as she quickly came across to place a hand on him.
“He hasn’t slept at all and I’ve gotten nothing done and I dropped his lunch and it went EVERYWHERE and-.”
“Ohhhh~.” The receptionist purred gently, “you sound like a mother with a newborn. Is this your first time looking after him all day?”
“Yes.” Hawks sobbed.
“Ok well, when you get home tonight, you tell your wife how much you appreciate her and her hard work because she does this every day.”
Hawks nodded solemnly.
“I will, I definitely will,” he promised, “she’s so amazing, I can’t believe she does this daily and doesn’t break down.”
“Mothers are super human.” The receptionist replied as she took Hiyoko out of the backpack. “Here, I’ll change him and put him to sleep while you get some work down.”
“You’re my new favourite person.” Hawks said as he wiped his eyes.
“You owe me.” She said with a wink then set to work sorting Yoko out.
…………………………….
That night you got home just after Hawks did and you walked through the door and smiled at him as he sat, looking absolutely smashed, on the lounge.
He straightened and tried to look more alive when he saw you.
“Where’s Hiyoko?” You asked him as you walked over.
“Sleeping.” He said with a forced smile.
“How did you go today?” You asked dubiously.
“Oh, amazing, it was… easy, he did everything I said he would…” Hawks lied.
“You’re so lying.” You replied with a giggle as you stopped in front of him.
“Ok, ok I am.” He said as he broke down, “he wouldn’t sleep and then he was getting into everything and I dropped his lunch and-.”
You chuckled sympathetically and climbed onto his lap, cradling his head between your boobs as he continued to offload to you.
“Awww, not so easy, huh?” You asked smuggly as you stroked his head.
“You’re an amazing mummy, I don’t know how you do it, I’ll never take all your hard work for granted again, you’re superwoman.” He said honestly as he turned and looking deep into your eyes.
You kissed him gratefully.
“Thank you.” You said softly, “that’s a really lovely thing to say.”
“How was your day?” Hawks then asked you.
“Oh! It was amazing!!” You said excitedly, “I left with just my handbag a-.”
“Wait, just a handbag? No massive nappy bag stocked with every conceivable item?!” Hawks gasped dramatically,
“YES! Can you believe it?!” You replied, playing along with his little charade. “And then I got food and I didn’t have to share it with anyone and I ate it HOT!”
Hawks gasped jealously.
You giggled and continued.
“AND I didn’t need to keep an eye on the clock for nap times, I could just enjoy my day.”
“I’m so jealous.” Hawks deadpanned.
You both chuckled and you hugged him again.
“So…” he said as you pulled back from the hug. “My wager…”
