“Well…” she said as she opened her eyes and looked at Hiyoko, “you have a very powerful quirk, and it’s all thanks to your mummy.”
“Me??” You asked with surprise, “from my quirk?”
“Yes.” Insight said as she let go of Hiyoko’s hand and stood up. “Come and have a seat and I’ll explain it to you.”
You, Hawks with Hiyoko on your lap, took a seat at her desk and she began outlining his quirk and how it related to you both.
“I pulled up your and Hawks’s quirk sheets for reference before you came here.” She said with a smile as she sat at the desk, “you have the purest quirk line Y/N, that’s why more of your quirk has shone through in Hiyoko.”
“Ohh ok,” you said, “but I can translate only words to emotions through touch? Hiyoko’s seems to be more like telepathy?” You commented.
“Yes this is correct.” Insight said. “Hawks your quirk, fierce wings, allows you to deploy feathers, yes?”
“Yep.” He replied with a smile.
“Well it appears that Hiyoko has obtained that ability from your quirk.” She commented, “and Hawks, are you able to pick up vibrations with your quirk and translate it to words in your mind?”
“I am, yes.” Hawks replied curiously.
“Well that is where Hiyoko also gets the ability of words/feather communication.” She confirmed, then she continued. “Can you control your feathers with your mind?” She asked Hawks further.
“Yes I can.” He confirmed with a nod.
“Well there you have it.” She said with a smile, “Hiyoko is, basically, an extremely well put together upgrade of the two of your quirks. He can telepathically communicate through his feathers. This will be extremely useful if he decides to follow in your footsteps, Hawks.”
“I can see how it would be!” Hawks replied, reaching out and ruffling Hiyoko’s hair with his hand. “He’s going to be an amazing hero.”
Hiyoko beamed at his father then looked back at Insight.
“I’m going to work with daddy and fight the bad guys.” He said proudly, “I’ll tell them to stop and go away with my feathers!”
You all chuckled at his zealous announcement and you gave him a cuddle.
“You sure will, Yoko, you sure will.”
“Mrs Takami, I will give you a write up on Hiyoko’s quirk, as far as I can tell, and that way you will have all of the known information about him, on hand so it will help with his training later on.” Insight said.
“Thank you so much, that would be wonderful.” You replied with a smile.
……………………………
The ride home was a happy one, Hiyoko had developed his quirk, everything was well and you were looking forward to the future.
As Hiyoko grew and learned more about his quirk he started to talk less, opting to communicate through his feathers, which you did your best to curb.
It was nice that he enjoyed exercising his quirk but you didn’t want him to become a mute because of it.
………………………..
The following year he started school.
He was a little shy and kept sticking a deployed feather against you so he could talk to you.
“Sweetheart, you’ll be fine.” You said with a smile, crouching down and removing the feather from your leg.
“But mummy, did you hear me in my feathers?” He asked.
“Yes I did, Nugs, you said you didn’t want to stay here without me, but you’ll make friends here in no time.” You said with a smile.
Hiyoko’s kindy teacher walked over and introduced herself, bending down to greet Hiyoko.
“Hi.” He said, looking down at the ground, “I can talk to you with my feathers, want to see?”
You gave the teacher a sympathetic look and she smiled.
“Sure, Hiyoko, show me.” She said kindly.
He deployed a feather and said something to her.
“Well that’s a very good quirk, Hiyoko, there is another little boy here who would love to see how it works! He’s deaf so he can’t hear people talking out loud but he just might be able to hear you through your feathers.” The teacher said. “I’m sure your quirk would work directly into his brain.”
“I’ll see if it works!” Hiyoko said excitedly. “Where is he?”
The teacher took Hiyoko’s hand and led him away, winking at you as your cue to leave and you quickly left before Hiyoko could miss you.
The teacher walked over to a little boy who was sitting in the corner, he was busy building a tower with some blocks.
“Here he is.” She said to Hiyoko. “Why don’t you try your quirk and say ‘hi?'”
Hiyoko smiled and crouched down next to the boy to attract his attention.
The little boy looked up curiously at Hiyoko and the winged one smiled.
He returned Hiyoko’s smile shyly and was about to go back to playing when Hiyoko deployed a feather and directed it to the boys arm.
The young boy looked at the feather against his arm curiously then his eyes shot up and met Hiyoko’s, who giggled with excitement.
“I think he heard me.” Hiyoko chuckled, looking up at the teacher brightly.
The little boy grabbed Hiyoko’s hand and made a small noise so Hiyoko spoke to him again through his feather. The little deaf boy’s eyes welled with tears and he smiled with joy at being able to hear someone’s voice.
The rest of the day those two played together, with Hiyoko leaving a feather permanently on the boys shoulder or arm so he could communicate with him freely.
…………………………
That afternoon you eagerly awaited your boy at the school gates, it had been a very quiet day at home without little Hiyoko around and you had felt quite lonely.
You heard the bell ring and Hiyoko came out, walking happily beside a boy who you assumed had been the same one the teacher had talked about in the morning.
“Awwww he’s made a friend!” You thought happily.
As you greeted your boy the teacher called out to you.
“Mrs Takami, do you have a moment?” She asked.
“Sure.” You replied, a little suspicious as to why she needed to talk to you.
“Your little boy, Hiyoko, has a beautiful nature and a very kind soul.” She said to you.
“Oh thank you.” You replied happily. “Did something happen to make you say that, though?”
“Yes actually, Hiyoko has spent the whole day with this little boy here, he’s deaf and none of the other kids would take the time to try and include him in games, since they couldn’t communicate with him. But your little one has been able to talk to him though his feathers.” The teacher said. “He’s played with the boy all day and hasn’t left his side, he’s a gorgeous child.”
You smiled proudly as Hiyoko continued to ‘talk’ to the boy through his feathers.
“Thank you,” you said to the teacher, “I’m glad he’s got a good heart, he’ll definitely need to be compassionate in hero work.”
“He’s going to be a beautiful hero, inside and out.” The teacher agreed.
That night you told Hawks about how sweet Hiyoko had been on his first day of school and your winged hero smiled proudly.
“He gets that from me.” He said cheekily.
“Yeah right.” You replied with a smirk and an eye roll.
Hawks laughed and grabbed you into a bear hug, kissing you down your neck.
“You know, I feel so blessed to have this little family.” He said, pulling back to look at you lovingly.
“We’ve definitely been touched haven’t we.” You replied with a smile.
“Touched with a little bit of everything good.” Hawks replied with a smile as he leaned down and kissed you gently.
