“N-Now mummy, lets not take drastic measures.” He said fearfully as you stood up and walked over to the kitchen. “Hey, come on, no, no, awwww man, don’t do this?!” He whined.
“Come on daddy, we all need to eat our peas, if you eat your peas you can have dessert.” You said authoritatively.
Hawks smirked at you.
“Dessert in the bedro-.”
“Not now, daddy!” You said quickly, “now come on…”
You scooped up some peas and plopped them on his plate. Waiting for him to eat them.
He stared at them dejectedly then up at you.
“Do I have to?” He asked in the most depressed voice you had ever heard.
“Yes, please, set a good example.” You said, nodding your head towards Hiyoko who was watching with interest.
Hawks sighed loudly and picked up a spoon.
“Mmmmmm.” He said as he faked putting a pea in his mouth, “that’s delicious, you should eat yours, Yoko, so mummy stops torturing me.”
“Oh come on.” You laughed, “it’s just peas, eat them!”
Hawks slowly put the spoon back down to scoop one up and you held his hand to help him scoop up more, then directed the spoon towards his mouth.
He forced his mouth open and let the pea filled spoon into his mouth then closed his lips, refusing to let the spoon go.
“Come on, daddy, eat.” You encouraged.
He let the spoon go and chewed, pulling all kinds of faces while Hiyoko giggled away in his seat.
“Daddy looks funny.” He commented through giggles.
“You’re killing your father, Yoko, look at what mummy is doing to me.” Hawks deadpanned and you stifled a laugh.
“Come on daddy, one more.” You encouraged as you took the spoon from him and force fed him another mouthful.
Hiyoko giggled again and put a spoonful of peas into his own mouth.
“Like this, daddy.” He said as he chewed the peas and swallowed them.
“That easy, huh?” Hawks grimaced. “Ok, show me again.”
In no time Hiyoko had finished his peas and Hawks was allowed to go back to eating chicken, much to his delight.
“Which one is the adult and which is the 3 year old here, I don’t know anymore.” You thought with an internal laugh.
………………………….
It was now shortly after Hiyoko’s 4th birthday and you and Hawks were curious to see when his quirk would manifest, you were both quite sure he had a quirk.
What would it be?
One morning you were clearing the plates after breakfast when you heard a voice call inside your brain.
“Mummy?”
You stopped what you were doing and looked around.
No one was there.
“Hiyoko?” You called out.
“Yes, mummy?” The voice in your head asked.
You looked around, trying to figure out what was going on, then you spied a soft white feather pressed up against your leg.
You picked it off you and looked at it.
Suddenly Hiyoko’s cheeky little face popped around the corner and he giggled.
“Did you hear me, mummy?” He asked excitedly.
“Yes I did, sweetheart, was that you talking to mummy?” You asked him.
He nodded his head gleefully.
“With my feather!” He replied excitedly, “I can talk to you from really super far away!”
“How did you know how to do that?” You quizzed him.
“I just did it, mummy.” He replied with a shrug.
“Can you do it again?” You asked.
“Mmhmm!” He hummed as he deployed another feather and pressed it against your arm.
“Can you hear me?” His voice asked into your mind as he stood in front of you, smiling up at you.
“Yes I can!” You replied in awe, “Yoko, that’s amazing! That’s your quirk!”
“My quirk!? I GOT MY QUIRK?! CAN I BE A HERO LIKE DADDY NOW?!” He asked excitedly as he bounced up and down, little hands balled into fists of excitement.
“Of course you can.” You replied with a chuckle, “we need to call daddy and tell him the good news!”
You pulled your phone out and rang Hawks who answered right away.
“Hey mumma,” he greeted, “everything ok?”
You put the phone on loudspeaker and held it out to Hiyoko.
“Hi daddy, we have some news!” You called.
“DADDY! I GOT MY QUIRK!” Hiyoko cried enthusiastically into the speaker, eyes wide with excitement.
“YOU DID?!” Hawks replied excitedly, “WAY TO GO NUGGET! GIVE ME 5 MINUTES AND I’LL BE HOME, YOU CAN SHOW ME!”
“OK!” Hiyoko replied with an excited laugh.
“Count me down, mumma.” Hawks called to you before hanging up.
“Ok baby, let’s count for daddy, you ready?” You asked Yoko.
He nodded with a wide grin.
“Ok, 5….”
“4! 3! 2! 1! BLASTOFF!” Hiyoko screamed.
“Where’s my little hero?!” Hawks called out as he opened the front door.
“DADDY!!” Hiyoko cried excitedly as he turned and spread his wings, shooting towards Hawks.
“NO FLYING IN THE HOUSE, YOKO!” You reprimanded.
“Sorry, mummy.” He replied to you from where he had landed in Hawks’s arms then turned his attention to his dad
“Daddy! Daddy! Look what I can do!” He said excitedly as he deployed a feather and directed it to Hawks’s face, smooshing it up against his dad’s cheek.
You watched silently as Hawks’s face changed to a look of awe and amazement.
“THAT IS SO COOL!” Hawks said with excitement. “Did you talk to mummy like this too?”
“Mmhmm!” He replied with a proud grin. “She likes it too!”
“How do you do it?” Hawks asked him, “do you feel a tingle in your feathers?”
“Yeah!” Hiyoko replied excitedly, stoked that someone understood the feeling he felt. “And then I just… talk.”
Hawks laughed.
“Well that makes a lot of sense to me.” He said with a smile then looked at you and winked. “What do you think, mumma?”
“Very cool.” You replied with a smile, “it’s a little different to what I was thinking his quirk would be… it seems a little more advanced than just lexical translation?”
“Well, we can take him to the quirk evaluation centre?” Hawks offered, “we can have Hiyoko rested and get a quirk sheet done about his skills.”
“That sounds good to me!” You replied, “I’ll make a booking.”
………………………….
That following Thursday all three of you arrived at the evaluation centre.
Quirk evaluations were mostly done by the hero: Insight.
Insight – was a well known hero who had the
ability to be able to learn everything about a
person’s quirk just by touching them. From
their top capability to their drawbacks,
everything you needed to know about
someone’s quirk, she could tell you instantly.
“Hello beautiful.” Insight said as Hiyoko was presented before her. “Did you just get your quirk?” She asked as she crouched down to his level.
“Yeah!” He said excitedly, “I can talk to my feathers!”
Insight looked up at you and Hawks with a quizzical expression on her face.
“He means through, through his feathers.” Hawks replied with a laugh.
“Oh I see!” She said as she smiled at Hiyoko again. “Can you show me?”
“Uhha!” He said with a bright smile as he deployed a white feather and floated it over and rested it on her shoulder.
She smiled.
“Well that’s very cool.” She said to the excited little boy.
“Did you hear me??” He bubbled, “I talked to you!”
“I know!” She said happily, “you’ll be an amazing hero one day just like daddy.”
“Really?!” He gasped, spinning around to look up at his father. “Daddy is the coolest hero.”
Hawks chuckled proudly.
“You’ll be more amazing than me one day, I just know it.” He said as he reached out and patted Hiyoko on the head.
“The two of you would make an amazing team.” Insight said with a chuckle. “Hiyoko do you mind if I hold your hand for a little bit?”
“Umm, ok.” He said as he held his little hand out for her to hold.
She took his small hand in hers and closed her eyes, scanning all the information she was being fed by her quirk.
