“She really did get him super quick didn’t she!” You replied with a giggle, “I’m happy for her.”
“OH! And F.Y.I… Boo boo LOVED the g-string.” Brian added, with a cheeky giggle on the end.
You blushed and glanced over at Hawks who was still playing on the floor with Hiyoko but was smirking at you from the corner of his eye.
“Can he hear our conversation?!” You wondered.
“Umm… yeah… Hawks liked it too.” You mumbled softly.
“YEAH I DID!” Hawks called out loudly, loud enough for Brian to have heard him and the bubbly gay burst out laughing.
“Ooooo, tell Hawks I see him.” He commented to you.
“Brian says, ‘he see’s you’.” You commented to Hawks, making the winged hero chuckle.
“Hope you two babies had a lovely getaway.” Brian commented, the suggestiveness dripping from his voice.
“Umm… yep… we did.” You said softly with a smile.
“YEAH WE DID!” Hawks called out again loudly.
At hearing Hawks again, Brian cackled gayly on the other end of the line.
……………………………
Life was good.
You continued to work a few days a week at the local library and Hiyoko had his flying lessons morning and night and was growing up very quickly,
He was about 2 and a half years old now and wanted to be like daddy when he grew up.
Standing at 87cm tall, with a weight of 14kgs and a wing span of 213cm his wings were clearly the centre of attention wherever he went.
“Mummy how big will my wings be when I’m as old as you?” He asked you one day.
“Well Nugs, the doctor says that you’ll be double your height and more than double the wingspan when you reach adulthood so you’ll be 174cm tall, a little taller than daddy, and your wingspan will be close to 8m at full stretch, which is going to be bigger than the wingspan of a wandering albatross!”
Hiyoko looked up at you with sparkling eyes, super excited by what you had just said but at the same time having no clue what you were on about.
“I’ll be as big as daddy?!” He asked, the only part of the sentence he had actually understood.
“Yes buddy, you will.” You said with a chuckle, amused by his excitement.
“Will I be a hero like daddy too??” He asked eagerly.
…………………………
A/N: Yes, I did my wingspan research and according to bbq-hawks-wings.tumblr.com, Hawks has a wingspan of a little over 6m (20ft.) wide. So Hiyoko having a span of 8m, as a fully grown adult, isn’t a gross overestimation of wing size.
I also used this chart-
For wing size reference regarding age/growth.
Just so you all know that I’m not pulling random numbers out of my ass lol.
………………….
“You can be whatever you want to be, Yoko.” You replied lovingly, “as long as you’re happy, I’m happy.”
He smiled brightly and ran back to his toys.
You smiled as you watched him play, then you noticed the bottom of his feathers were a little dirty and frayed.
“Yoko, have you been dragging your wings again?” You asked him.
He looked over his shoulder at you.
“No mummy?” He said shyly.
“Nuggie? Are you telling mummy the truth?” You pressed.
“They heavy mummy.” He replied sadly.
“I know, baby, but you need to hold them up otherwise you’ll damage your wings.” You said gently.
He nodded softly and then went back to playing.
You sighed with quiet worry.
“Might need to talk to Hawks about strength training for his wings so he can hold them off the ground.” You thought as you continued doing what you were doing.
That afternoon you had a chat to Hawks before he and Yoko went out for a fly.
“He’s still dragging his wings occasionally.” You said sadly, “his outer feathers are a little damaged already.”
“Hmmm.” Hawks said thoughtfully as he rested his chin in hand. “Nugget, come here buddy, let me see your wings.”
Hiyoko came trotting over to his dad and spread his wings out wide.
“Like this daddy?” He asked proudly.
“Yeah, like that buddy.” Hawks said with a smile. “How long can you hold them out like that?”
“Only THIS long.” Hiyoko replied, holding his hands out as wide as he could.
“That’s a looong time.” Hawks replied playfully. “Are you sure you can hold them out that long?”
Hiyoko nodded but then his wings started to droop, the outer feathers coming in contact with the floor and bending.
“Lift your wings up, Yoko.” Hawks encouraged.
“I caaaan’t.” Hiyoko wailed softly, his wings sagging even more before he pulled them in, but even then they were still dragging on the ground.
“Might need to do some training to get your back muscles stronger, Nugget!” Hawks said with a smile. “There’s a hero gym near work we can go to.” He added, looking up at you, “they have personal hero trainers there, someone will be able to give us some pointers.”
“Thanks daddy.” You said gratefully, “that would be wonderful.”
………………………….
And so from that day forth, Hiyoko started training with his daddy twice a week. His back muscles grew stronger and stronger each passing day and as it turned out, he was quite the gym junkie and looked forward to going there.
Around age 3 he was growing into a very good looking little boy, he had always been a cute baby but as the baby fat started to melt away he was showing signs of having a very nicely shaped jawline and fine features so along with comments about his wings he was also getting compliments on his looks.
“Does it make you shy when people say you’re a good looking boy?” You asked him curiously one day.
“What does good looking mean, mummy?” He asked inquisitively.
“It means you are nice to look at.” You replied, simplifying it as much as possible.
“Oh….” he said, thinking a bit. “Like uncle Bri, uncle Anthony and Daddy?”
“Do you think they’re nice to look at?” You asked, slightly intrigued by his reply.
“Yes?” He replied, “I like looking at everyone?”
“Either he’s not quite understanding what I’m saying or he’s pan.” You thought with an internal laugh. “Well people think you’re nice to look at too.” You said with a smile.
“I will tell that to people too then!” He said happily before turning and wandering off.
You smiled then went back to cleaning up.
A few days later you were out shopping with Hiyoko when an older lady stopped you to compliment Hiyoko.
“What a handsome little one.” She said in her wobbly, old lady voice as she reached out and pinched his cheeks. “Very good looking.”
Hiyoko’s eyes brightened and he smiled at her.
“Good looking to you too!” He said happily, “and I like your baubly skin.”
You nearly died with embarrassment but the elderly lady found it very amusing and burst out laughing.
After apologizing profusely, to which she said it was the best compliment she had ever received, you walked on with him.
“Did I make her happy, mummy?” Hiyoko asked you.
“Yep. You did.” You said with embarrassment, “but maybe next time don’t tell people they have baubly skin, other people might not like that.”
“So just say it to that lady then?” Hiyoko asked.
“Yep, only to her.” You replied with a smile.
…………………..
Later that night Hiyoko was being difficult with his food and you couldn’t get him to eat his peas.
“Come on Yoko, you need to eat your peas.” You pleaded, “if you want to grow up big and strong you need to eat them.”
“But they’re yucky.” He pouted, “how come daddy doesn’t need to eat peas?” He added, looking over at Hawks’s plate of chicken.
“Because I’m already grown up.” Hawks said proudly.
“Will I get to eat just chicken like you, daddy, when I get grow’ded up?” He asked.
“That’s right, Nugs.” Hawks replied proudly.
“No actually, I think that daddy needs to set a good example and eat peas as well.” You said to Hawks.
His face fell.
