“No, my King, no more news… but… if I may offer advice in regards to the safety of your concubine…”
“What about the safety of my concubine?” Kagayama asked stiffly.
“King Kuroo appears to be intent on waging war in the hopes of retrieving the beautiful woman that came from his homeland. It becomes personal when he intends to take official royal property…” captain Daichi said, accenting the words ‘official and royal’,”
“Your point?” King Kageyama asked, crossing his arms across his chest after he had smoothed his garments.
“If your concubine were to become Queen… it would make it much harder for King Kuroo to obtain her,” captain Daichi said.
King Kageyama couldn’t reply.
No one except he and you knew about the secret… What was he going to do?
“I understand,” he replied gruffly, “you are excused,” he then added quickly, to the surprise of captain Daichi.
“My King… are you in favour of—,”
“You are excused… captain,” Kageyama said tensely.
Captain Daichi, disheartened by the King’s response to his very palatable and tempting comment about royalty, nodded silently and rose to his feet before bowing once more and exiting the room.
Hinata met him on the other side of the door with a hopeful smile but that smile quickly faded when he saw the despondent look on the captain’s face.
“He was not in favour of your idea?” the orangette asked sadly.
‘May I ask what your proposal was?” Hinata asked dolefully.
“I was trying to ensure that Y/N becomes our queen… but I do not think that King Kageyama thinks of her in that way as he dismissed me very quickly.”
“Oh,” Hinata said softly with a hurt tone in his voice.
The pair left it at that and parted ways, leaving Hinata to wonder why it seemed like the King liked you but was unwilling to marry you.
“Is she of a lower caste?” he wondered, “but that wouldn’t matter as as soon as she becomes queen it dismissed her previous caste… is there some other reason?”
He continued on to his way, thinking that he should ask you some questions later on to find out why King Kageyama like you, yet wasn’t wanting to make you his wife.
……………………………….
King Kageyama sat on the side of his bed and scrubbed his hands through his hair.
“What do I do?!”
He got up and walked to the door that led to a private hallway, one that he used if he wished to get from one part of the palace to another without being seen. Stepping inside he walked the torch lit hall until he was nearer to your room.
Silently, he slipped out of his secret hall and walked to your door, unseen by anyone.
You heard the knock at your door and thought it was Hinata, so went to answer it to see if it was your call to see the King.
But instead of a rather short orangette meeting your gaze, steely dark blue eyes and a tall lean figure met your astonished stare.
“I need to come in,” the King mumbled, glancing around to make sure no one had seen him.
“Oh… yes, please,” you stammered, stepping back and gesturing for him to enter the room.
He stepped in past you and you closed your door then turned to face him.
“My King,” you began politely.
“Tobio… it is Tobio in private,” he replied, annoyed that you were being so formal all of a sudden.
Your face heated up and you had to avert your eyes and clear your throat before being able to talk again.
“T… Tobio…” you whispered out, the sound of his name on your tongue feeling so forbidden yet so sweet, “what brings you here?”
“I have a dilemma,” he answered bluntly.
“Is there any way that I would able to help?” you asked curiously, walking over to him.
He jerked his head in the direction of your bed and you both walked over and sat down on it.
He looked troubled, so you placed your hand on top of his to comfort him- which seemed to calm him almost instantly.
“Your former ruler is on the war path,” he stated, staring down at the floor, “and I have been told that he has heard of your beauty and wants you returned.”
“Oh,” you said softly, anxious tension building in your chest.
“He does not know you are of male origin. No one here knows you are of male origin,” King Kageyama sighed.
You nodded… you also knew that things could go badly if it were found that you were not female.
“Do you have any suggestions?” you asked him.
He shook his head.
“My other concern is that those closest to myself, captain Daichi and Hinata, have been voicing their support of you as Queen… but again, what would happen if I appointed you as queen and then….” He signed heavily, scrunching his nose with frustration.
He was trying to work out how best to handle this while you were still stuck on him casually mentioning that there was a position of Queen open for the taking… and your name was on the cards.
“For now,” King Kageyama said, thinking out loud, “we must keep our affairs secret.”
You nodded wholeheartedly.
He lifted his head to look at you, making direct eye contact as he reached a hand to cup your cheek.
“But I swear to you, that I will keep you by my side. I will not let anyone take you from me.”
You closed your eyes and nuzzled into his hand a little, reassured that he wasn’t going to discard you.
“I risked coming here,” he then said, “but I feel much better for having been in your presence.”
You opened your eyes and smiled at him.
“Oh King, your emotions are flowing forth much better,” you said with a cheeky teasing lilt in your voice.
“Do not test me,” he replied in a sudden deep voice, switching from caressing your cheek, to gripping your jaw so that he had control over you, “I need a release from this tension in my body. But I dare not stay much longer. When the moon is at its highest point, come to my room. I will have the guards leave my door so that you may enter alone. Do not plan on coming back to rest in your chamber until the following night,” he said.
You swallowed the lust rising in your body and nodded your head into his hand.
It was going to be a good night.
“I will take my leave,” he said, letting you go and standing up to walk to the door, “do not be late.”
