Your brows furrowed with sadness.
“I don’t want things to be over between us.”
Kenma felt a shift in your mood and looked over at you to see tears forming in the corners of your eyes, so he paused his game.
“What’s wrong?” he asked with concern.
“Nothing,” you said quickly, wiping your eyes with the backs of your hands.
“No, tell me,” he said, putting his PSP down on the bed.
“I just… I’ve had such a fun day today and I just feel like something bad or something not nice is going to happen now because that’s what always happens.”
“It’s ok,” he said softly, “nothing bad is going to happen.”
“But it probably is. Like, I want to tell you that I like you but I don’t want you to say that you don’t like me back and… OH FUCK. I… SHIT. I JUST SAID IT!” You sat bolt upright and stared at him. “Just forget I said that Kenma. Undo, UNDO! HOKUS POKUS FORGETTI SPAGHETTI!”
You threw your hands out towards him and wiggled your fingertips at him, utter fear taking over your entire being and making your body move in weird ways.
Kenma didn’t say anything, just got onto hands and knees so he could crawl closer to you.
Unsure of what he was going to do, you placed your hands on his shoulders to push him back but he just kept coming until his face was right in front of yours and suddenly your lips were pressed together.
It was a surprise to the two of you, to be honest, but Kenma had just let his body take over, and when he really thought about it, this is what he had been wanting to do all day- Just kiss you.
He wanted you to know that he really liked you, so, not being good with words, he figured this was the best response to your sudden confession.
The kiss lasted a few seconds before he pulled back and you just sat there with a giant ‘rebooting’ sign stamped on your forehead as you stared at him.
This isn’t what you had been expecting.
In your mind, this was, unfortunately, supposed to be the end.
This was the end of hanging out; it was the end of having someone who you felt cared for you; the end of someone being with you who didn’t make you feel stupid. The end of being with someone who validated you as a person.
“So… does this mean we still get to hang out?” you asked him shyly.
He nodded, blushing now that he had come to terms with what he had just done.
“So you like me back then?” you asked, fiddling with your fingers bashfully.
He nodded again.
“Yeah… umm, I’m sorry, I just… kissed you.”
You both fell silent after that, looking down or away as you let the flusteredness take over you.
“Thank you,” you said softly after a bit, not knowing what else to say.
He just nodded and then sat back and picked his PSP up again while you continued to fiddle with your fingers.
“Well…” you said after a while, “the day has still been great! And nothing bad had happened!”
you smiled to yourself.
“Maybe things are changing? Maybe Kenma has magic-ed me and I’m not cursed anymore? WAS I cursed before?!” You had suddenly struck a on a thought.
You looked up at Kenma and he glanced at you when he felt you watching him.
“What is it?” he asked softly.
“I think you cured me,” you stated.
“From what?” he asked.
“Bad luck,” you replied.
“How can you have had bad luck when you’re my good luck?” he asked.
You weren’t sure if he had ment it to be a flirtatious line (as he certainly looked obviously to what he had just said) but it still made the butterflies on your stomach kick up their heels and flutter around at top speed.
“Well… you’re my good luck charm too,” you said with a bashful smile before lying back down again.
You kept your legs over Kenma for the rest of the time that you were there at his place but now you were overly keenly aware of your body touching his.
When it started to get late, you left, promising Kenma you’d see him tomorrow and then you left, kinda awkwardly.
“I can’t believe he just kissed me!” You screeched internally as you flung your front door open and raced in.
Your dad still wasn’t home, but you didn’t feel as lonely anymore. You had someone who liked you- and that’s all that mattered.
It was hard to sleep that night but you didn’t feel tired the next morning and jumped out of bed to get ready for school.
You met Kenma at his house, like usual, and he gave you a small smile as you approached him, pausing his game for a second to acknowledge your presence.
“Did you sleep well?” you asked him.
“Uh… I got up at 3am to play my game, but I feel fine,” he replied, still playing his game as you walked to school.
You were just happy to be walking with him and your mind kept replaying yesterday’s events, especially the kissing, which made you wonder if it had all been your imagination.
“Hey… did we really kiss yesterday?” you suddenly asked.
“Yeah,” he replied, still looking down at his game.
“Oh. Ok. Just checking,” you said with a smile down at the pavement.
Now inside the school grounds, you both headed to your lockers then went to class together.
That was another day that you don’t remember much about, your mind was floating on a cloud hand in hand with Kenma, occasionally kissing him, and by the time the final bell rang you were wanting another kiss just to make sure that he still liked you and was happy to kiss you.
After school you got your things, then walked to the gym with him, still a little shy and more quiet that you usually were.
You didn’t hold hands, but you really wanted to… you just didn’t have the courage to ask him yet.
Once inside the gym, you sat down with his PSP clutched in your hands and watched him play.
Every movement.
Every twist of his shoes on the volleyball court.
Every side glance at you, was burned into your brain.
You sat there loved up and puppy eyed, watching him play.
He was a little distracted by you being there and kept checking to see if you were looking at him- which you were, and it made his heart feel a little funny.
