Take Down Chapter 26: Mission Start!

The potion I got was called ‘defy’ and the info bar said it was for escaping the clutches of a dinosaur.” Captain underpants said, interrupting the little side conversation that was happening. “I was pretty much on my last legs in that nest so when I pulled the potion out and saw that it glitched when the force field did, I took a gamble, drank it, then walked through.”

“Which level was this potion from?” Migata asked curiously.

“40? I think?” Captain replied, “the dinosaur level.”

“That sounds about right.” Butterfli3 commented, “I’ve heard that that level ‘feeds’ certain levels with dinosaurs so it makes sense that a potion from that level would work on any dinosaur; since that’s the mother level.”

“Is the force-field around Pant’s nest an actual feature of this level then?” Migata mused.

“I don’t think so?” Butterfli3 replied, “I haven’t seen any other force-fields around on this level. It would be assumed that if it’s a feature it would apply to everything on this level.”

“True.” O/N and Migata mumbled at the same time.

“I think it would be worth looking into the dinosaurs on level 40. There might be something that has happened to them too and they might be ‘feeding’ glitched monsters to other levels.” You added in.

“That’s also true.” Migata confirmed with a smile at you. “We need to collect some of those potions from level 40 first though to get people out of the nest before we take on Pants otherwise it’s going to be a massacre.”

“Ok, let’s split into pairs.” O/N said. “You and U/N go on stealth and find the nest and Butterfli3 and I will find these potions.”

“What classification was that potion?” Butterfli3 asked Captain.

“Uncommon.” The player replied, “I found mine around the swap, guarded by Mokele mbembe.”

“Aggressive?” Butterfli3 asked, referring to the dinosaur.

“Yes, but I have no doubt you’ll take it out with one swipe of your whip sword.” The player said with a laugh, “it should be the dinosaur asking if you’re aggressive!”

You and O/N giggled.

“We’ll go and find the nest.” You said to O/N, “Migata, do you have an item or spell that will bring O/N and Butterfli3 directly to us- as in, our location at the nest, when they’re done?”

Migata thought for a moment.

“I’m all out of teleport cubes but I could do a time recall spell or set a ‘team flare’ that allows members of a party to locate everyone without others being able to see the flare?” Migata said.

“I like the idea of the flare but we would need a flying spell to make it from the teleport platform -at the start of level 44, to wherever you and Y/N are, once we get back from 40.”

“True,” Migata mused, “ok, we’ll do the time recall but it just means you have to get as many potions as possible in a short space of time.”

“We can do that.” O/N said confidently, “it’s like a time sensitive mission, we’ll be fine.”

“And uh… what about me?” Captain asked sheepishly, “I would like to opt out of this mission. I am not a willing participant.”

“Come with us to the teleport pad then and you can go wherever.” O/N said, “thanks for helping us.”

“Hey, no worries.” The player replied, “my pleasure.”

“Ok, Migata, do your thing.” O/N said to Migata, holding her arms out like she was getting frisked at the airport.

Migata smiled and chanted an incantation, waving his hands over O/N then Butterfli3 to cast a time recall spell on them.

“Ok, I’ve set it to max, 1 hour.” He said, “so in one hour’s time you’ll be recalled from wherever you are to wherever we are.”

“Let’s just hope we can get enough potions by then.” Butterfli3 said softly.

“Negativity! Be gone!” O/N shouted, hugging Butterfli3 tightly around the middle, “I’m going to squeeze the bad vibes from you!”

“It’s working.” Butterfli3 replied, smiling gently down at O/N.

“Ok, we’ll be off.” Migata said to Butterfli3, O/N, and the new player, “good luck and see you when you get back!”

“See you in one hour.” O/N said as she let go of Butterfli3’s middle and grabbed his hand, “we have a mission to complete!”

Goodbyes were exchanged then you and Migata headed off into the underbrush, heading for Pants’s nest.

“Wait!” You said suddenly to Migata, “can I log out quickly? I think Hansu can help.”

“Sure.” He replied, “I’ll guard your avatar while you’ve logged out.”

“Thanks.” You replied, squeezing his hand before letting go and swiping your fingers down mid-air and selecting the log out button.

You blinked a few times as your office came into view and you rolled your head to the side and looked at Hansu.

“Hey.” You croaked at him.

The poor assistant wasn’t expecting you to come back so soon and jumped with surprise when he heard your voice.

“What are you doing?” He asked, “did you find Goha? Why are you back?”

“Hansu. Log onto the RFO forum and request help from players game-wide. Explain about the people trapped in the nest and ask if they could help find potions on level 40 called ‘defy’ mostly around the swamp area. This potion helps to get people out of the nest. The top players, O/N and Butterfli3, are already on the level looking for the potion, but we need more man power. Please and thank you.” You said before laying back down, “LINK START!” You hollered into the office, making Hansu jump again.

“God.” He whispered in a vexed tone as you disappeared back into the game, “this girl, I swear. Once a boss, forever a boss.” He grumbled, logging into the forum and typing he information you had told him before hitting ‘notify all.’

“Thanks.” You said with a smile as you returned into the game next to Migata.

“No problem,” he replied with a smile, “you ready to go?”

“Yes.” You said with a smile, “I just asked for more man power for O/N and Butterfli3’s potion search, so hopefully more people come to help.”

“That was good thinking.” Migata said with an impressed smile, “you know, you’d make a good hero.”

“I don’t think so.” You replied with a small laugh, “you saw that day that Goha was chasing me with a knife. I just ran.”

“Well I’ll always be your hero so I guess there’s no need for you to worry.” Migata said as he took your hand and smiled again.

“Thanks.” You said softly, looking up at him with a soft look in your eye.
