“Do you think he’s ready for marriage?!” You whispered excitedly back to the receptionist.
“Well he’s 27 now so he should be thinking about settling down!” The receptionist said confidently. “You two have been together for 5 years already and he still looks at you the same way he did when he first fell for you!”
You didn’t want to get your hopes up but at the same time you would LOVE to be Mrs Midoriya.
“Well…if he proposes, I won’t be saying no, that’s for sure!” You whispered happily, pushing off from the front desk and giving the receptionist a wave before walking towards your office.
“Y/N!” Deku called from his office when he saw you walk past. “Want to go out for lunch with me today?” He asked hopefully, hopping up and walking around his desk towards you.
“Sounds good to me, Izu!” You replied happily, walking over to him and giving him a hug. “You’re such a wonderful boyfriend.” You said happily as you kissed him quickly.
His face fell slightly and it confused you a bit.
“Izu?” You asked with concern, “you ok?”
“Oh! Sorry! Yes! My apologies Y/N, can’t wait for lunch.” He said with a wide smile.
You relaxed a little and stepped back from his embrace, holding onto one of his hands as you walked back a bit, your arms being pulled slightly as you increased the gap between you. “We have our couple interview today too.” You reminded him. “3pm, with Hey Hero! Magazine.”
“Yes I remember.” He replied happily, ” I always love doing couple interviews with you.”
“Same Izu.” You replied with a smile. “Ok, I’d better get to work!” You said with a chuckle, letting his hand go as you turned to leave.
“Boyfriend…” he thought as he watched you walk away. “What if it were…husband…”
He blushed at the thought and turned back into his office to get back to work.
………………..
Your lunch date went well and he seemed to be in a more normal state, conversation was flowing nicely and you were feeling more relaxed again.
“Maybe he IS just thinking about the anniversary date?” You thought, trying to dismiss his slightly more quiet behavior and random expressions.
Soon enough 3pm rolled around and the interview was underway.
You and Deku sat side by side on the set lounge while the interviewer asked questions and a camera crew filmed the whole thing, another journalist snapping pictures of the two of you as the interview progressed.
“So Deku, what made you ask Miss L/N to be your girlfriend?” The interviewer asked.
“Oh! Well…” Deku replied with a blush. “We just got along really well and she’s really pretty.” He said as he ducked his head shyly and glancing across to you as he put a hand on your knee. “I thought she might not like me back but I got lucky!”
Your heart was exploding. He was just too innocent and sweet!
“Can we expect wedding bells in the near future?” The interviewer asked mischievously.
Deku froze. “Uh….umm…”
Sensing his discomfort at such a pointed question, you jumped in.
“It’s not something we have discussed yet.” You replied with a smile. “For now we are just enjoying each other’s company.” You said with a smile, looking at Deku reassuringly.
He smiled slightly and squeezed your knee, his gaze falling to his lap.
“Enjoying each other’s company? Is she just happy to keep dating? She doesn’t want more?” He thought to himself as you took over answering a few questions. “Maybe she’s not the type to want to get married…and if I asked, would she say no and break it off with me?”
A sinking feeling weighed heavy on his heart. He didn’t want things to end.
He looked from his lap back to you, your beautiful side profile capturing his heart once again and he just sat there admiring you, completely forgetting you two were in the middle of an interview.
…………………
“H-hey uh… Y/N?” Deku stuttered as you walked home after work that day, hand in hand. “The uh…question about marriage…”
You stiffened slightly, “oh crap! What do I say?? Do I make it obvious? Do I play it cool? I don’t want to rush him but I would get married TOMORROW if he asked me!…ok maybe not tomorrow. Maybe like. Right now.”
Your pause caused him to look at you and he saw a slight panicked look on your face.
“Oh! P-please don’t feel pressured! Forget I said anything.” He laughed sheepishly and rubbed the back of his neck.
“Phew! That was close! I almost scared her away!”
“Oh it’s ok, I just think it was a bit rude of the interviewer to ask such a question! I mean, it’s not nice to put people on the spot like that.” You said, trying to give him some reassurance that he could take his time on this decision.
“She mustn’t like the idea of marriage?” He thought, judging by your negative reaction to the question being asked by the interviewer.
That night he couldn’t sleep and kept mulling over what to do.
“I’ll ring Todoroki in the morning and ask his opinion. He has thousands of women falling at his feet every day! He’ll know what to do.”
He smiled in the darkness, content with this plan and cuddled you closer to him.
He didn’t want to ever let you go. You meant too much to him.
………………….
“Umm hello Todoroki, it’s Midoriya.” He said when Todoroki had answered his call the next morning.
“Midoriya. A pleasure to hear your voice, what can I do for you?”
“Uh, well, I need help…this is not a business call, it’s a personal call.” He said, looking up to make sure the office door was closed. “Todoroki, I was wondering if you might be able to give me some advice?” He said quietly.
“Of course, Midoriya, what advice are you after?”
“I…I’m thinking of maybe proposing to Y/N… do you think that’s a good idea?” The shy greenette asked with a blush dusting his cheeks.
“Congratulations on this decision, Midoriya, I support this next step with all my being.” Todoroki replied in his usual stoic manner.
“So you think I should ask her if she would like to marry me?” Deku confirmed.
“Of course, Midoriya, she will definitely say yes.” Todoroki reassured him.
“Umm ok…b-but..how do I propose? What’s the best way to ask her?” He asked as he fiddled with the pen on the desk.
