“Uh…uh, well yeah, umm, he—.”
“How long have you two been dating?! I haven’t heard anything about this and I’m always the first to know about these things.” Liisa said in an annoyed sassy tone.
“I—it’s only new, he doesn’t want people to know because of, umm, his sports— yeah! Uh, sports! He’s kinda not allowed to date?” you lied quickly.
Both girls stared at you.
“Right.” Nora said in a dead tone, obviously not believing your lie.
“Well, we’re your friends, right?” Liisa suddenly stated, “so you can tell us that you’re dating, right?”
“Well uh, I guess it’s ok?” You stammered.
“Ok cool, so we can meet him then.” Liisa said, a sly look in her eye.
“Uhhhhhhh….”
“C’mon Y/N! We’d love to meet him.” Nora added, a cruel smirk pulling at her lips.
“Ok, so they obviously don’t believe me and they’re trying to catch me out on it, what do I do now?” You thought as you sat there, dumb faced with spicy armpits.
Just then your phone rang and you grabbed it from your pocket.
“It’s him!” You lied as you looked at the screen and saw M/F’s name, “I’ll be back in a second.”
You quickly pressed answer call as you jumped up and ran from the room.
“Hi babe!” You called brightly into the speaker.
“Y/N?” M/F’s voice asked from the other end, “who is babe?”
“Sorry, sorry!” You hissed as you raced down the hallway. “I had to pretend you were my boyfriend in front of Liisa and Nora.”
“So how did it go?!” She whispered harshly from the other end.
“Terrible and I mean like, oh my god, like….Where are you? We need to meet, NOW!” You whispered harshly in return as you kept running, glancing back over your shoulder every so often.
“Girls bathroom, level 2.” She replied softly.
“Ok, I’m coming.” You replied, panting slightly, “see you soon.”
You hung up and raced up the stairs to the second level, quickly entering the girls bathroom and locking eyes with your friend.
“OH. MY. GOD. I am royally screwed.” You said as you approached her.
“Why? What happened???” M/F asked urgently.
“Ok, you’re not going to believe this but the guy I took a picture of… is the captain of the volleyball team AT. THIS. SCHOOL!” You punctuated.
“Shit the f-f-front door!” M/F gasped as she slammed her hands over her mouth and screamed while inhaling.
“I know right?!” You wailed. “They totally don’t believe me anyway! This whole mission is fucked, what do I do?!”
“Go and tell them you just broke up with him! You told them I was him right?? Just say he broke it off with you or whatever!” She replied.
“Maaaaaaan.” You wailed, “how embarrassing, they’ll know I’ve been lying from the beginning.”
“Maybe it’s best to jump now while the ship is only just alight rather than waiting for the ship to go down completely in flames.” She said wisely.
You hung your head and sighed.
Just then the two of you heard voices coming to the bathroom.
“Shit! It’s Liisa and Nora!” You hissed frantically.
You and M/F raced to get into a toilet cubicle to hide, cramming into one together.
“She’s totally lying.” You heard the voice you recognized as Liisa, say as she entered the bathroom first.
“But she does have his photo on her phone…” you heard Nora reply.
“Big deal?” Liisa scoffed, “she could have taken that anywhere.”
“But who would take some random guys picture and claim it’s their boyfriend?” Nora retorted.
You looked up at M/F and pulled a face.
“Lying ass losers that have no friends.” Liisa replied in an obnoxious tone. “Bet she did this just to try and be cool.”
You hung your head as the shame set in, a knot of anxiety and despondence forming in your belly.
M/F reached out and placed a sympathetic hand on your shoulder.
“Well, if it turns out that she is lying we can expose her in front of the whole school as a pathetic piece of shit.” Liisa spat cruelly, “that’ll teach her for lying to us.”
Your shoulder slumped as dread took over.
M/F stepped forward and wrapped her arms around you, holding you as you both waited for the girls to leave.
After a few more insulting comments they left the bathroom, leaving you and M/F alone to digest their words.
“Those bitches aren’t even worth your time.” M/F spat. “I’d cut them off now!”
You kept your head down, a tear rolling down your cheek.
“They’re right though, I’m just a pathetic loser piece of shit. I don’t deserve any friends anyway.” You said in an emotionless tone, “let them ruin me, I don’t give a shit…”
“Hey, hey, c’mon…” M/F said gently, “it’s ok, just tell them you broke up with him, that’ll save your ass.”
“They’ll just go and double check my story with his and for sure he’ll say he has no idea who I am and I’ll be fucked.” You said sadly. “Whatever. I don’t care.”
You pushed out of the cubicle and headed back to the classroom, completely void of emotion.
As you entered Liisa looked up and saw your face.
“What happened?” She asked, upon seeing the dejected look in your eyes.
“He broke up with me.” You said numbly.
“The fuck?” Nora said with surprise, “no way, he doesn’t just get away with that! Let’s all go and confront him at lunch.” She said firmly.
“Wh-What? N-No it’s fine, you don’t have t—.”
“No we insist, Y/N.” Liisa said as she smirked deviously, “we can’t let him break a friends heart.” She added, almost cruelly, glancing across at Nora.
“They really do want to see me come to ruins don’t they…” You thought with a sigh.
……………………………..
Lunchtime came all too quickly and you regrettably let the two girls take you by the arms, escorting you, either side, towards the gymnasium.
“If I know Kuroo, he’ll be in the gym practicing volleyball.” Liisa said as she strode along beside you.
“G-Guys seriously, you don’t have to do this for me.” You said softly.
“No, no, don’t even mention it.” Nora said quickly from your other side.
You hung your head, accepting your fate.
They marched you up to the gym doors and opened them.
As you looked up you saw the entire boys volleyball team inside; Your terrified gaze falling on the tall, black haired captain that you had taken a photo of just yesterday.
“KUROO!” Liisa called sharply.
You flinched as he looked over at the three of you, volleyball in hands, poised mid-air.
At first he had a neutral expression on his face then he smirked.
“Hey.” He said in a cool, baritone voice as he pulled the volleyball down and tucked it under his arm.
