“How did he get so high in the game so quick?” You asked curiously.
“I’m not 100% sure but I’m pretty sure it’s because he went searching for monsters and beat them to level up quickly.”
“Sounds brave?” You thought.
The boss continued. “Legend has it that he found a hidden boss and beat him to get that cloak he wears. No one else has that type of cloak.”
“Cool!” You said with sparkly eyes. “What is he? Like…you know how I’m trying to be a merchant..is he like…a fighter? Or something?”
“Swordsman.” The boss replied. “And although it’s rude to ask another players level I’m pretty sure he’s close to level 80 now. To unlock the chain whip sword you need to be above level 50.”
“Woooow.” You breathed, getting more and more excited about this player. “So what’s he like, personality-wise?”
“Well he’s nice but he’s quiet. He’s a solo player, never joined a guild, singles monsters, bit of a lone wolf but will team with people if a particularly hard boss needs to be taken care of.”
“Ok none of that made sense.” You deadpanned.
The boss laughed. “Ok, he keeps to himself, hasn’t joined a guild- which is like a team of people that work together. Is strong enough to take down monsters on his own but does help others.”
“Ahhhh gotcha.” You said with a thumbs up. “He sounds amazing. He was nice enough to save my ass from a crocodile earlier so that should say something.”
“Yeah look, some people love him, others are jealous and just spout nonsense, saying he thinks he’s better then everyone else so that’s why he doesn’t talk to people or join a guild.”
“Well I think I’m in the ‘love him’ group.” You said with a laugh. “I’d love to meet him again and chat. He sounds intriguing.”
“If you hang around long enough he’ll be here tonight, he’s one of the special guests I’m cooking dinner for…”
“SERIOUSLY?!” You gasped.
“Yeah seriously.” The boss chuckled. “There are a group of strong players who are meeting here to discuss how to take down a monster on a higher level. They like to meet on lower levels because they can relax a bit down here, and food and accommodation is cheap.”
“Guess I’ll be hanging around then!” You said enthusiastically.
After being paid for the fish you looked at your account.
“144 Mahi. So if I pay for another night here that’s 95 Mahi gone…leaving me… 49 Mahi. Which I need to use to pay that player back… I still need another 46 Mahi to make up the 95 Mahi to pay her back.” You sighed. “It’s a tough start to the game but today has been better.”
You walked to the reception desk at the inn and paid for another night then went back to the restaurant.
“Hey boss when will that player -who helped me yesterday- be back on?” You asked him.
“Oh! She was on earlier when you were out fishing and said she wouldn’t be online later because she had to study.”
“Yeah, actually I should probably be doing the same to be honest.” You replied sheepishly. “Ok that’s good it gives me more time to get another 46 Mahi to pay her back.
“Did you want to earn some more Mahi towards that 46 goal by working for me tonight?” The boss asked. “All you need to do is take people’s orders and run food and drink to them…you’ll have a chance to talk to Butterfli3 too.” He said with a sly wink.
“As if I would take this job just to talk to him.” You scoffed with hands on hips. “Ok, you got me, yes I need a reason to get closer to him, thanks I’ll take it.”
The boss laughed. “Ok we start dinner at 5pm, you have an hour or so before we start.”
“Right-o!” You replied with a salute, “I’ll be back.”
You left and got the key to your room, putting your prized basket and fishing rod beside the bed.
Your health bar had beeped at you a few times while you were talking to the boss but you just ignored it, it was back down to 26/50.
“Ugh, guess I’d better go and pick some berries or something?”
You left and went to the fields again, picking some berries and making your way closer to the tree line to sneak a few mushrooms.
You managed to eat a few but the taste wasn’t doing it for you and you only got your health bar up to 32/50.
“Better than zero.”
You checked the game clock and saw it was 4:45pm.
“Better get ready for work!”
……………….
“This is the waitress outfit?” You asked the boss, looking down at your frilly get up.
“Yep.” The boss said as he busied himself around the kitchen. “What? Something wrong with it?”
“Well…it’s just…very short and not what I’m used to…”
“You look fine.” He replied, waving his hand dismissively as he pre-chopped vegetables and meat for the night.
“Ok so what time will Butterfli3 and the other strong players be in?”
The boss chuckled. “Most people ask how much they’re gonna get paid for working, not about the customers for the night.”
You blushed. “Oh…yeah sorry that’s what I meant.”
He smirked. “7pm game time, and 5 Mahi an hour.”
“Cool.” You said, straightening your apron.
“Oi. Customers are here, go greet and seat.” The boss said, pointing with his knife out the kitchen door.
“Oh! Wait what’s this restaurant’s name?”
“Dawn restaurant.” The boss replied.
“Original.” You said sarcastically with a chuckle.
You greeted the customers and led them to a table and seating them, asking if they wanted anything to drink first while they looked through the menu.
At first you were a little nervous but taking orders and carrying food out to people became easier as the night progressed and you relaxed into your job, smiling and chatting with everyone to ensure they had a good time.
You glanced to your right when you saw new customers had entered and called out a warm welcome to them.
“Welcome to Dawn Restaur-.”
You froze.
Behind 4 highly weapon equipt guys, followed Butterfli3.
“We need a table away from other customers.” The leading guy said lowly from behind a black half face mask at covered his nose and mouth.
