“Minor detail?!” you squeaked, “the thing freakin’ talks and you call it a ‘minor detail.”
Butterfli3 nodded. “It’s not as if talking is going to make it any harder or easier to beat, it’s just a NPC boss that has a preset dialogue.”
“Ok, it’s still a little unsettling though,” you said hesitantly as you stepped out from behind him again.
“Remember, that the dragon can’t see you so that should make you feel better too,” Butterfli3 added, looking back at you with a smile.
“Ok…” you replied, still watching the dragon closely.
“Butterfli3!” Kirito called, “henchmen 12 o’clock.”
You looked up and saw some smaller velociraptor type dragons come stalking out from behind the main red boss dragon and Butterfli3 stepped forward and unsheathed his sword.
“Ready, Kirito? Asuna? SSG69?” Butterfli3 called, “Migata, heal us when needed.”
“Got ya!” Migata called back to Butterfli3 as SSG69 and her fox left his side.
“Call out if you see any activity that demands attention,” Butterfli3 said to you as he walked towards the approaching henchmen.
You were about to look back to see where Migata was and to make sure no one was coming from behind him, when a flicker caught your attention.
Your head quickly whipped back to where the velociraptors were and you looked closely at one of the approaching creatures.
As you watched it, you saw it glitch ever so slightly- the cursor above its head flickering between red and green momentarily.
“BUTTERFLI3!!” you hollered as he prepared to take a swing at the closest velociraptor, “the henchmen are being controlled! Anarchy is around here somewhere.”
Butterfli3 paused momentarily then swung, his sword swinging right through the velociraptor’s neck.
“Kirito! Watch out, these monsters glitch,” Butterfli3 called to Kirito, who had tried to take a velociraptor out and had found the same issue.
“What is this?” Kirito called as he jumped back and put an arm out to protect Asuna behind him.
“Not a lot of time to explain but there’s a player who hacked the system and can control monsters. He’s here…somewhere,” Butterfli3 said, stepping back from the approaching velociraptors.
“What’s this dude’s name?” SSG69 called out.
“He goes by Anarchy Lord,” Butterfli3 replied, yelling his answer over his shoulder.
“Uh…. you may wanna take a look at the name that’s just popped up above the boss dragon’s head,” She called to him uneasily.
You gasped when you saw the name.
Anarchy_Lord was up in bold above the red sentient dragon’s head and your heart sank.
“You!” Butterfli3 growled.
The dragon let out a low, haunting laugh.
“You thought I would just give up, Butterfli3?” he rumbled out, “On the contrary! I’ve worked harder and more fervently than ever since our last duel.”
“Last duel?” Butterfli3 cut in, “you summoned a Jötunn to duel for you! You’re a cheat!”
“And now, I’m the boss dragon of level 44!” he roared, “I am undefeatable!!” Fire spewed from his mouth, aiming straight for Butterfli3.
“AQUA VORTEX!” Butterfli3 called quickly and a protective force field of water coated him instantly, quenching and repelling the fire immediately.
“What the fucking fuck!” Anarchy screeched.
“Ha ha!” you yelled, “take that you cheating whore burger!”
His head whipped around, looking for you, but he couldn’t see you so he returned his attention back to Butterfli3.
“What the fuck is that?!”
“Oh this?” Butterfli3 replied smuggly, “just a little thing my wife made for me because she’s awesome. “
Anarchy scowled. “It is but a useless defense.”
“I beg to differ,” Butterfli3 replied confidently, “Everytime you use fire at me the water crystals in the vortex energize and power up, making this defense infinitely stronger. My mage imbued it with his magic.”
“Huh?” Migata said from the back of the cave, “but I…”
You spun to face Migata and waved your arms frantically as you ran towards him.
“He’s bluffing, he’s bluffing, don’t blow his cover!” You hissed to Migata.
“Oh! Right!” Migata whispered back, “we’re playing mind games, huh?”
“I’m guessing it works on Anarchy…as far as Butterfli3 is concerned anyway. Let’s just play along and see how it goes.”
Anarchy hadn’t made another move since Butterfli3 had spoken and for a moment it looked like he didn’t know what to do.
“Scared Anarchy?” Kirito suddenly called mockingly, “you’re a hacker right? So you have intertwined your player account with the boss programming and if we defeat you, you will be permanently erased from the game, correct?”
Anarchy opened his mouth to say something then closed it again quickly.
“Ohhhh? That’s right isn’t it?” Butterfli3 continued, picking up from Kirito’s angle, “when we defeat you, you’ll be gone for good…”
Anarchy snarled and arched up.
“Raptors, attack!” he called and his henchmen stalked forward again, 12 in total.
“Ah, I see what’s going on. They’re taking his aggro in a slightly different way than usual because they’re fighting an actual player not just an NPC…mind games will be the key this time.”
Fighting the velociraptors was difficult because of their glitching powers and Anarchy stayed quiet while his henchmen fought. You suspected that he was still controlling them behind the scenes.
While the fight was raging, you ran over to your bestie who was commanding her fox attacks and sidled up beside her.
“Is there anyway you could send your fox in to do damage against the boss dragon?” you asked softly, “it doesn’t look like he’s actually paying attention… wondering if a sneak attack would work?”
“One swipe of that dragons tail and my fox is a goner, I’m not taking that risk,” she whispered back, “you go in! You’re invisible remember?”
“Fuck…she’s right.. I don’t have the skills but…”
You hesitated a moment more before taking a step back behind your bestie and running around the henchman towards Anarchy.
“O/N wai—” Butterfli3 tried to call frantically when he saw what you were going to try and do but Kirito jumped over to him and placed a hand on his chest, facing past him.
“Don’t alert Anarchy…let’s see what happens. Then if she gets in trouble you can jump in.” He said lowly.
Butterfli3 watched helplessly as you ran softly around behind Anarchy and started looking around in the pile of loot of golden ornaments for a weapon to use.
Anarchy still hadn’t really moved much so you were certain he was slightly preoccupied with controlling his glitching henchmen that were causing Kirito and Butterfli3 a bit of trouble.
“Weapon….weapon...” you muttered internally looking around for the perfect thing to use.
You saw a golden sword and reached out for it, grabbing the hilt and pulling on it to get it free of the surrounding treasures.
As you gave one last yank, the sword came free and knocked over a vases, causing a heck of noise behind Anarchy.
“Oops,” you grimaced, looking up just in time to see Anarchy swing around and shoot a reem of fire directly at you, “shit,” you gasped internally, ducking to avoid the flames but the amount of fire coming at you was massive and you knew you had no chance of dodging it.
