“I should have seen this coming,” Praetorian said with vehemence in his voice, “they’re now going after known associates and using them as leverage.” He stood up. “I’m going to get her.”
“Just wait a moment,” Butterfli3 said, standing up quickly and holding his hand out to stop Praetorian from walking out the door, “we will need back up, but do we even know where Delilah is?”
“She says she’s being held, but… hold on… I think she’s sending a secret message…” You squinted at the holograph screen and Praetorian walked over beside you to see better. “See here.” You pointed to the message from her.
He read the message over, then looked where your finger was pointing.
[“please help me. im being held capTive by tHE guards. can You come and save me? im not sure wHERE i am.”]“These letters are randomly capital,” you said, pointing them out, “she has deliberately made them capital because when you start typing a message it automatically makes the first letter a capital, but see, she has made it lower case.”
“T-H-E-Y H-E-R-E,” Praetorian spelled out.
“The guards are probably watching her and telling her to message you so that they can flush you out,” Butterfli3 said.
Just then another message popped up from Delilah.
[“where are you? Which level are you on?”]“Don’t answer that,” Butterfli3 replied, “the guards are wanting to know where we are.”
[“is Praetorian with you?”]“Yeah… this is definitely the guards making her type… hold on, let me send something back… in code to her too…”
You placed your fingers on the holographic board and slowly typed out a message to her.
[“don’t worry we will come and get you. we Have an Army comiNg to Get you. don’T panic. it doesn’t mattEr where we are and it doesN’t matter who is with us.”]“H-A-N-G T-E-N?” Praetorian asked, deciphering your coded message to her.
“Yeah? Like… hang ten, hold on, hang in there, hold on for a little bit, chill there… I’m telling her we’ll be there to help.” You shrugged.
“I hope she gets it?” he replied.
[“OK, thank you, i am in the main room at the headquarters.”]“She understood,” you said with a grin, “does anyone know where the main room at headquarters is?” you asked Butterfli3 and Praetorian.
“I do. But if you don’t ask for directions they’ll know I’m with you,” Praetorian replied gruffly.
“Where is that?” you sent to her.
[“ask praetorian…”]“They really want you caught,” you said to the larger player.
He scowled. “Crafty bastards… ok…tell her that you need time to find me… we can do a sneak attack.”
“Good thinking,” you replied, typing out your next message to her. “We will have to locate Praetorian, standby.”
[“ok,”]“Ok… which level is the headquarters on?” You asked him.
“You probably won’t believe this but it’s on level 45.”
“Wait? What? The next level up?”
“Yep.”
“Well… that makes things a lot easier… we’ll be there in just a few minutes.”
“Yes. But what’s the plan? There are only 3 of us and there will be many of them,” he said.
“Yeah, but they think they have time to coordinate an attack because they think that Butterfli3 and I are going to look for you. And they think it will take a while… AND… they’re not expecting the number one player to front with his chain whip sword and kick all of their asses,” you said smuggly, smirking at Butterfli3.
“It’s been a while since I wielded this,” he replied, pulling it from the sheath on his back.
“Well, it needs a good work out so let’s get to it.” You stood up and lead the way to the front door.
“Which way is the best to get in?” you asked Praetorian.
“We should try and go through the water reserves at the back of the building. There are two water channels that go directly under the building.”
“Will it be guarded?” you asked him.
“It probably will, yes, but only two guards, at most, will be there… it wouldn’t make any sense to have many guards standing around in the water there. If anything, most of the guards will be at the front gate if they’re expecting an army ambush.”
“You make good points,” you said, looking at Butterfli3 to see if he agreed as well.
All three of you continued on down to the teleport pad and Butterfli3 called for the next level up as he pulled his hood down over his head and pulled his sleeves down as well, holding the chain whip sword in his hand in readiness.
Once on level 45, you all ducked into the bush nearby and made your way along the back tracks, heading for the guarded grounds of the headquarters.
It seemed unusually quiet and as you got closer to the headquarters you realized that no one was expecting you three to have arrived yet and were all still very much in a relaxed state.
“Let’s go around the back,” Praetorian whispered, once you three had crouched down near the tree line facing the entrance to the building and watched for a bit.
There were guards walking back and forth, patrolling casually, but no one seemed uptight so you slunk back into the bush land and went around to the back.
“There are the tunnels,” Praetorian whispered again, pointing to two narrow water channels that went into underground coves in the walls of the place, “the guards will be just on the inside.”
“I’ll take care of them,” Butterfli3 said, moving forward to the side of the tunnel and creeping up to look in.
He only took the smallest peek inside the tunnel then jumped in and out again, pulling two guards from the opening.
“What the?!…” Praetorian said with surprise, “that was so quick? I didn’t hear anything?!”
“They didn’t even have time to scream,” you chuckled with pride, elated that Butterfli3 still had the skills.
“This avatar is much quicker than my Tamajiki one,” he said, clicking his chain whip back into place.
“Well… uh… let’s continue,” Praetorian said, clearing his throat and stepping into the tunnel to lead the way.
“I sense 2 more up ahead,” Butterfli3 whispered from behind him, being careful not to step into the small stream of water trickling down the tunnel.
“Did you want to go first?” Praetorian asked him.
Butterfli3 nodded. “I will be silent, like the first…”
