“It’s called an elixir, it will revive your health bar and permanently raise your health bar by 50%. So you’ll go from 50 to 75.” He said in a soft casual tone.
“Are you sure I can have this? But what about you, don’t you need it? Wait… 50%?? Wouldn’t it be better to use it on someone like yourself that has a higher health bar? And how much do I owe you? Man I’m gonna be picking food forever to pay people back.” You sighed.
“Umm… you talk a lot… and no charge, I don’t need it.” He replied, look down.
“Uh, ok?” You replied, tapping your finger on the bottle. A little icon popped up that described everything Butterfli3 had just said and had two options:[DRINK] [DISCARD]
You pressed drink and the bottle lid opened, allowing you to raise it to your lips and swallow the sweet nectar down.
“Wow, that was actually yummy!” You said with surprise. You looked at your health bar, it was refilling rapidly and the bar increased to 75 as the top limit instead of 50. “Why are you helping me though?” You asked the mysterious player.
“Because you’re nice.” He said softly. “And I feel I can trust you. I can’t trust a lot of people in this game but you’re different.”
You were surprised at first but then nodded. “Yeah well I guess I don’t pose a threat to you and there would be a lot of people challenging you for your title.” You replied with a smile. “Well that’s twice you’ve helped me now though I feel bad that I can’t help you back because I’m only a level one nothing.”
“What do you want to be?” He asked as he pushed his hood off, revealing his face to you.
“I uh, I want to be a merchant.” You said, your eyes travelling his face. “But so far all I’ve succeeded in doing is losing health and picking up useless foods. I have been getting better though I’ve only been playing for like, 3 days.”
“You really do talk a lot.” He said with a slight smile.
“I’m sorry I just have no one in the real world to talk to this about…I…I kinda don’t want anyone on my real life to know I play this game…”
“Same here.” He said then he looked down sadly. “If you knew me in real life…you’d definitely think I wasn’t cool…”
“Well if you knew me in real life you probably think I was just as stupid as I am in this game so yeah. Nothing to hide really.” You laughed with embarrassment as you scratched the back of your head.
“I don’t think you’re stupid at all?” Butterfli3 said, looking back across to you curiously. “Does she have insecurities just like me?”
“Oh I am! Trust me, if I wasn’t stupid I’d have figured out how to at least get some points and money in this game.” You replied with a laugh.
“You didn’t attend the tutorial at the beginning of the game?” Butterfli3 asked with a slight head tilt.
Your heart sank.
“The one where they give you some money and basic equipment to get by. Everyone goes to the tutorial place on the first day…”
You let your head flop forward as you groaned. “Are you serious?”
“Have you been playing without any tutorial help?” He asked.
You just nodded with your head down.
“Umm well I’m impressed that you’re still alive then?” He said, trying to be nice. “I…I can help you a bit, I’ve been playing ever since the game started so…”
“I’d really really appreciate it!” You said quickly, looking up at him with pleading eyes.
“O-ok, well first of all you need to get some experience points or EXP and some more money so let’s farm some rats.” He said, like he had done it many time before.
“Uh, Butterfli3, what’s experience points and farming?? And also, I want to be a merchant, I don’t want a rat farm, what the heck?!” You laughed.
“Oh! Sorry I forgot you’re still new… you don’t know gaming terms do you?”
“Nope, sorry, you’ll have to start at the ground and work your way up with me.” You said with an embarrassed laugh. “God, Y/N, how stupid can you make yourself look in front of the number one player in this game?!”
“Right.” Butterfli3 said, getting a serious look on his face. “Experience points are earned when you repeat an action over and over, in this case it’s going to be hunting rats, or farming, as it’s called in the game. Experience points help you level up.”
You nodded. “Ok, kinda get it but not, please continue.”
He raised an eyebrow but continued. “So farming just means hunting. We’re going to kill rats.”
“But I don’t have any weapons.”
“You have hands don’t you?”
“Well…yes? Wait…do I have to strangle them???”
“I’m punching rats for experience points?”
“Yes.” He said flatly. “But don’t worry I’ll tank them and take their aggro then you can attack them.”
“Iiiiiii’m sorry you lost me.” You said with a deadpan expression.
“Where did you get lost?” He asked patiently.
“Ok I’ll be honest. The minute I stepped into this game.” You replied.
“I….I don’t know how to help you with that one?” He said innocently, looking slightly defeated.
“Ok, no…Don’t worry, just go back to the part about German tanks and aggro the puppet off Sesame Street.”
“I’m sorry I?-.”
“Tank and aggro.” You simplified.
“Oh! Ok, tanking is where I’ll take the attack, I’ll be the decoy to draw the monster or rat’s attention and keep it focused on me and allow it to attack me, that’s the aggro part.”
“Won’t you get hurt though?” You asked quizzically.
Butterfli3 laughed. “No…I’ll be fine.”
“Ok? Let’s give it a try then.” You said, eyeing him suspiciously. “Where are the rats?”
“They’ll come… they’re more likely to be out in the field so let’s go there,” he said, turning to lead the way out of the woods.
You followed him out into the field then over to a patch of longer grass. Suddenly he lurched back as if something had jumped at him.
He turned to face you with a rat latched onto his arm, it’s sharp teeth digging into his wrist.
“It’s ok O/N, calm down and punch it.” He said calmly.
“PUNCH IT?!” You screeched.
“Yes, just punch it, I’ve got it covered, I’m taking it’s aggro.” He said calmly once again.
You took a deep breath in and shut your eyes, balling your fist up and throwing a punch in the direction of where you thought his arm and the rat would be.
