“I…I’m sorry you had to do that because of me.” You said softly.
“He has been looking for a reason to fight me O/N, and he knew treating a woman disrespectfully would get to me.” He said calmly.
“Y-you know my name?? My online name?!” You said, surprised.
“I’ve met you twice now… I do take note of these things.” He said before turning his head away. “Anyway, no need to thank me, I didn’t do anything.”
You didn’t know how to respond to that, so just let him go and whispered a ‘well you did help me so thank you.’ As he walked back inside.
The rest of the night you found it hard to concentrate on serving people because you kept sneaking glances at Butterfli3.
He was intriguing you more and more. He seemed kind…but somewhat reserved? Was it arrogance or shyness? You were leaning more towards shyness.
At the end of your shift you handed the apron back to the boss and collected your pay.
25 Mahi.
“AWESOME! It’s not much more but it’s something… Maybe I can do a few more shifts over the next few days and get some income that way?”
You were so deep in thought as you climbed the stairs to the accommodation, and your room, that you didn’t notice a sudden presence behind you.
“Stop.” A voice said lowly in your ear and you jumped violently and screamed. The person quickly covered your mouth from behind and you struggled to get free, spinning on your heels to see who it was.
“Butterfli3?!”
The top player had a firm grip of your wrist as they kept their head down.
“Are you a spy? Answer my question.”
“M-m-me?!” You gasped. “No! Why?!”
“You’re following me.” Butterfli3 replied.
“No! I’m not! I’m staying here because it’s the cheapest inn and I have no money…well…barely enough to get by.” You replied defensively.
“Why were you watching me all night?” He asked, slowly raising his head as he let your wrist go.
“I…uh…I.”
You were super flustered at being caught sneaking peaks at this intriguing character. How were you going to explain that you just thought he was cool and you couldn’t keep your eyes off him?
“I…Ummm I think you’re really cool and…”
“DON’T SAY IT Y/N!”
“…..I couldn’t keep my eyes off you…”
“GODDAMN IT! WHAT DID I JUST SAY?!”
Butterfli3 froze and his head jerked slightly in surprise. He slowly pushed his hood off and looked at you.
Damn he was handsome! Sure, it probably wasn’t what he looked like in real life but he had jet back hair, half spiked, and deep navy blue eyes.
“You think I’m cool?” He asked, his steadfast gaze locking you in place.
“Uh..Umm yeah..” you replied, fiddling with your hands as you looked down.
There was silence.
You took a deep breath in and looked up to say something else but he had completely vanished.
You looked around wildly wondering where he had gone.
From behind one of the room doors Butterfly stood panting, clutching his chest.
“S-s-she t-thinks I’m c-c-cool?!?!” He gasped nervously internally. “If she knew who I was in real life she definitely wouldn’t think I’m cool…but here…I can be whoever I want to be…here…I don’t need to be scared or shy…in this world the anxiety flies away…like a butterfly.”
…………………..
Unable to see where the mysterious Butterfli3 had gone you went to your room and lay down on the bed to log out.
As you returned to reality you looked at the time.
“4:05am.” You groaned. “Man I’m going to be so wasted tomorrow…again!”
And true to form, you were!
You entered the classroom like a zombie and slumped down in your chair, your forehead hitting the desk with a solid thud.
“Woaaahhh there.” Your B/F laughed. “You need to stop studying so hard!”
“Mmhmmmm.” You mumbled in response.
“I studied a bit then played RFO.” Your B/F said proudly.
Your interest piqued. “What level are you now?” You asked without thinking.
“Level 6!” She replied enthusiastically, “when I get to level 10 I want to become a beast tamer! There are some really cute foxes on level 3, I want one as my pet.”
“Level 3 huh? I haven’t been past….”
You stopped.
Her eyes widened.
“No! No! I was meaning when I played on your account I never went past the gates on the main city…thing.” You said, trying to make it sound like you didn’t really know anything about the game.
She settled and let out a sharp exhale. “Maaan I thought you were gonna tell me you actually bought the game and are playing it! I almost died.”
You laughed hollowly. “Yeah nah…haven’t got it.” You lied.
“There are a few people in this class who play it you know?” She added.
“Who?” You asked quickly.
Just then the teacher walked in and you were forced to terminate the conversation.
“I’d love to know who else plays and what they are…imagine if I met them in the game! Or imagine if Butterfli3 was in my class!!”
Your heavy lidded eyes scanned the classroom.
“Nah, no one here could be butterfli3.” You laughed internally.
………………….
That night you were back to RFO again, determined to get the last 21 Mahi to pay the player back.
You got up off the bed and grabbed your basket, walking out the door and heading downstairs to head to the woods to get some more mushrooms.
As you left the inn your health bar beeped again. It had dropped below 25/50 and the colour of the bar had gone from green to orange.
“Ugh, need to fuel up a bit.”
You sighed as you went to the furthered end of the field, scanning the ground for mushrooms. You were so intent on what you were looking for that you didn’t see a viper snake drop down from a branch.
Before you walked within strike range the snake was swiftly decapitated by a chain whip sword.
You gasped when the evaporating crystals of the defeated creature caught your eye and you turned around to see who had killed the snake.
“You shouldn’t be out here with your health bar so low.” Butterfli3 said as he approached you, he had his hood on again.
“I don’t really have a choice, I don’t have any money to spare for food and I’m only just getting by as it is.” You replied flatly.
“Here.” Butterfli3 said, reaching into his pocket and handing you a green potion.
“What is it?” You asked, taking the potion from him.
