“Little does he know that he’s going to be on his own from tomorrow,” you thought, keeping your face neutral.
Hizashi saw that you didn’t respond to Aizawa’s comment and turned away.
“Well, good luck today you two,” he said with his back turned.
“And you,” Aizawa said to him then left.
Hizashi turned back to you and noticed that you hadn’t started grading the papers on your desk like you usually would have.
“Is everything ok with you and Shouta?” he asked you.
You shook your head.
“No. But it’s ok. Every will be just fine.”
You picked up the things you would need for the first class and left, leaving Hizashi in the staff room alone.
“Usually, she would be working hard, marking papers or making lesson plans, but she seems to have slacked off… what was it that Nezu was talking with her about in the hall? Does it have something to do with that?”
…………………………………
The girls asked you to have lunch with them that day and you accepted eagerly. You weren’t going to pass up on spending one last lunch time with them.
As they chatted and giggled together you took a moment to look at each one of them and wonder where they would be in 10 years time.
“I can see all these girls becoming great pro-heroes… I hope they remember me fondly…”
You had to look away to hide a sudden tear and quickly wiped it before looking back to them and adding something to the conversation.
Yaoyorozu, like always, was watching you and saw you hide a tear.
“I will talk to her after school,” she thought, sliding a piece of homemade cake across to you, “Miss L/N, please do try some of my homemade cake? I’m sure you will find it delicious.”
You took some gratefully and ate it, commenting on how light it was.
“This is beautiful, Yaoyorozu. Thank you,” you said with a smile.
The final bell rang that day and you said goodbye to the students and wished them a safe trip home, giving them all a warm smile that Yaoyorozu couldn’t help but feel it was tinged with a little sadness.
Aside from that she was waiting for you to say your usual ‘see you all tomorrow’ … but it never came and that worried her.
You left the classroom as soon as you had said your goodbyes and walked back to the staff room with Yaoyorozu trailing behind.
“Miss L/N!” She called out to you.
“Yes, Yaoyorozu?” you asked, turning around to face her.
“I do apologize if this comes off as inappropriate but I’ve noticed you have been a little down lately,” she said.
You forbade yourself to cry and bit into the inside of your bottom lip so hard you drew a bit of blood- but it was worth it to keep the waterworks at bay.
“I assure you, I’m fine,” you lied, “I’ve just been a little tired lately. That’s all… it’s hard work being a teacher.”
“I’m sure it is!” she said, “if there is anything I can do for you, please don’t hesitate to ask.”
You nodded and smiled sweetly at her, swallowing your blood mixed with saliva.
“Thank you… I will, I promise…”
She nodded again and stepped back then turned away.
“I will see you tomorrow,” she said as she left, “bye miss L/N!”
“Bye… Yaoyorozu,” You said, your voice shaking a little as you said it.
She didn’t notice, and you watched her bound off down the hallway and mingle with the other students, still fighting to keep those tears at bay.
“Will they forget about me? Will they hate me for leaving without notice?” you wondered as you turned and walked the rest of the way down the hall then entered the staff room.
ALL the teachers were there and you cursed the full room silently. How were you supposed to clean out your desk with everyone there?
You made polite talk with them first, then sat down and pretended to work.
Slowly, one by one, they left… until it was just you alone, and once the room had emptied, you grabbed a box from beside the bin and bought it over to your desk, placing all of your desk items in there.
In no time you had everything cleaned out and you were heading for the door for the final time.
Now out into the darkened hallway, you walked quickly to the front door and let yourself out then locked the door behind you.
It had felt like someone had been watching you but no one called out and you didn’t see anyone, so maybe it was just your imagination?
Off you headed home… finished.
Done.
Final day at UA- completed.
…………
Aizawa had just gotten home when his phone rang and he picked it up.
“Hizashi?” he asked as he answered the call.
“She’s leaving! She’s gone!” Hizashi yelled into the receiver.
“You’re too loud, Hizashi,” Aizawa grunted, scrunching his nose at the volume of his long time friend, “who is leaving?”
“Y/N!” came the reply.
“What? What do you mean?” Aizawa asked in a calm monotone voice.
“I saw her clean out her desk and then leave! Everything is gone!” Hizashi yelled.
“You’re always so dramatic,” Aizawa grumbled, “she probably wanted to take her things home because the desk was cluttered.”
“No! Everything is gone! She didn’t know what the schedule was for tomorrow and she didn’t grade papers! She has LEFT!” Hizashi said.
“You’re reading into this too much, she has a contract with UA,” he replied.
“Well it must have been annulled because I also heard her talking about something to do with ‘placement’ with Nezu! I’m telling you. She has GONE! You need to go and talk to her!”
“I’m not going to do that,” Aizawa said sternly, “if this is one of your ploys…”
“I’m being serious! You need to go to her house and talk to her!”
“I will see her tomorrow. Goodnight Hizashi,” Aizawa stated before hanging up.
Hizashi tried to call Aizawa again, he tried to call you as well… but neither you, nor Aizawa picked up again. Leaving him to fret on his own.
…………………………….
That night you cried.
You cried a lot.
All of the pain from that day came pouring out and you just let it all out in the open.
You were hoping that by finishing up there you would feel overwhelming relief but you didn’t feel any better- and in a way you felt robbed.
“I’m supposed to be feeling relieved but I feel more guilty than anything else. I feel like a parent who has just divorced and the kids (students) have been caught up in the mess that they shouldn’t have been involved in in the first place! Yaoyorozu is going to be devastated when I’m not there tomorrow, I just know it.”
You slumped down on the bed.
“Maybe I can send an email to Hizashi or something and he can pass a message on to her for me? No. I’m thinking into this too much… I just need to move on.”
