Hizashi watched Aizawa leave, knowing that the messy haired teacher was very much put out by the thought of his friend dating the woman he was still deeply in love with but he was determined to stick to his guns.
He knew the kind of life you would have if you and he ended up together and it hurt him just remembering the look of pain on your face when he had said those mean things under the control of the quirk.
“I’ve done what’s best for her,” he thought as he walked home with his head down, “she will find a happiness elsewhere in time.”
His heart stung as he thought at last line but he was a strong man- used to pain.
…………………………………..
The next morning you and Hizashi ended up in the staff room together at the same time, ahead of the other teachers and you pulled him aside to talk to him.
“Well?” you asked, “did you have any luck?”
“He was very tight lipped,” Hizashi replied, “he wouldn’t say anything. But I did ask if it was ok for me to ask you out and he didn’t say anything but his body language screamed ‘no’.” He threw his hands up in a X shape across his body.
“That’s something, I guess,” you replied, a little lifted by the fact that Aizawa still had feelings for you.
“I would like to test it a little further and flirt with you this morning when he comes in to see if he stops me,” Hizashi replied, “is that ok?”
“Since when do you not flirt with me, Hizashi?” you chuckled, “yeah that’s fine. I’ll play along.”
“Well… can you blame me for flirting with you? Have you looked in the mirror lately?” he flirted with a wink.
“Ugh,” you groaned playfully, “that’s a terrible line.”
He laughed.
“It’s worked for me before.”
“With who?” you chuckled.
“My high school girlfriend.”
“When you were, what? 15? You’re using a 15 year old’s pick up line on an adult hoping it will work?” you chuckled.
“TouchĂ©! You got me there!” he laughed and you smiled.
Just then Aizawa entered and Hizashi saw him from the corner of his eye so kept the conversation going.
“Are you doing anything tonight?” he continued on.
You glanced at Aizawa then back to Hizashi who raised his eyebrows at you.
“Uh… no I don’t have anything on. I—,”
“Miss L/N,” Aizawa said sharply, “we need to go to class now.”
“Oh,” you said quickly, “umm… I’ll be right there, Aizawa.”
“Now,” he said again, stopping to look up at you and Hizashi, giving Hizashi a cold stare.
Your heart was beating so fast you thought Aizawa could see the shape of it leaping out of your chest through your ribcage and you quickly grabbed you things and gave Hizashi one last look before walking to the staff door after Aizawa.
“See you later… Y/N,” Hizashi called to you and you smiled in return.
Aizawa’s body twitched when he heard the way Hizashi had said your name and he scowled under his fringe- unseen by anyone else.
Silently, you followed him down to the classroom and entered.
“Was he bothering you?” Aizawa asked bluntly as he put his things down on the desk and stared at them.
“No,” you replied, “he’s nice.”
Aizawa didn’t reply but you felt like your reply had hurt him a bit and you didn’t know whether you felt happy that you had caused a bit of pain or sad that you had caused a bit of pain.
“I’m so confused right now, I want him to hurt like I’m hurting but at the same time I don’t…”
It was another awkward day.
Aizawa always managed to somehow stop you and Hizashi talking and you were at least a little bit happy that he was being a tad protective.
“Maybe if we keep this up, Aizawa will eventually talk to me about it and we can get back together? Is that wrong? I don’t want to seem desperate but I just… I love him.”
You sighed and hung your head as you walked down the hall, passing the science lab where Yaoyorozu was restocking chemicals for the lab teacher.
She saw the look on your face and her heart fell.
“Miss L/N looks so sad. She’s been keeping a brave face on in front of us all but when no one is looking she lets it show.”
………………………………..
The next few weeks were much the same. Hizashi was still trying his best to get Aizawa to admit his feelings for you but nothing was making him take that next step and you hoped that moving on would get easier as the weeks passed but it was just getting harder seeing him each day.
“You know what?” Hizashi announced one afternoon in the staff room, “we need to have a staff night! We all need to go out and have a drink! When was the last time we got together like that?”
“I’m in!” Nemuri called happily, raising her hand.
“Caller on line one is on their way to Disneyland!” Hizashi called loudly.
“I thought it was drinks?” Nemuri asked in confusion.
“He’s slipped into his radio persona,” you chuckled to Nemuri, “I’m in on staff night. I haven’t had a chance to hang out with you all since starting here.”
“Then let’s do it!” Hizashi said loudly, “Shouta! You come as well.”
“No,” Aizawa replied from his desk, “I have to sleep.”
“Ahhh! Come on!” Hizashi cajoled, “you need to live a little!”
“No.” Aizawa promptly got up and left the room, sending an awkward silence around the room.
“He’ll come,” Hizashi said brightly, “I know he will.”
You hoped he would come but at the same time if he didn’t, that would be ok too… it was hard seeing him each day.
………………….
That following Friday night the staff members of UA met at the local bar. There were so many teachers that you hadn’t met yet that it was taking you a while to get around to introduce yourself to everyone.
Naturally, you were dressed up to the nines, going all out on your look for the evening. You hadn’t seen Aizawa yet and had started to breathe a sigh of relief that maybe it would be better if he didn’t come after all, so that you could enjoy the evening.
But as you got your drink from the bar and turned to go back to the table- that had Hizashi and Nemuri sitting at it, you bumped into a well dressed man with his hair tied back in a bun.
