“Well, I’m in class 1-A.” He said proudly, “hero class, of course.”
“I see.” You said professionally.
“Which class are you teaching?” He asked expectantly.
“Not sure yet.” You replied with a forced polite smile, “I’ll find out after I get in.”
“Oh true.” He said with a chuckle, “I mean, you’re just so professional that there’s no way they could turn you down, right? You chose the right outfit and all too.” He added, checking you out.
You stiffened as you continued to walk.
“Would you mind pointing me in the direction of the reception please?” You asked him courteously.
“I’m taking you there so I don’t need to p—.”
Just then the school bell rang, interrupting his sentence and he let out a groan.
“Cockblocked by the bell.” He muttered; your eyebrows flying up in surprise as you looked at him with shock written all over your face.
“Does he actually think he has a chance?!”
“Just keep going down the hall and it’s the last room on the left.” Kaminari said sadly, “I gotta get to class before my homeroom teacher suspends me.”
“Suspends?!” You asked with surprise, “as in dismisses you from the school?!”
“Yeah.” He replied sheepishly, “he’s super strict. But somehow I don’t think he would actually suspend us for being late but I’m not gonna take my chances.”
You nodded.
“Catch ya, teach, hope you get the job.” Kaminari called as he jogged backwards and gave you double finger guns then spun and speed walked down the hallway back the way he had come.
You watched him go a little way then shook your head and headed for the principal’s office.
“Hello?” You called as you got to the room and slid the door open.
“Come in, Miss L/N.” Principal Nezu called. “You’re right on time.”
“Oh thanks.” You replied, “I like to be sharp.”
“Wonderful.” He added, smiling happily as he stood on his office chair and placed his hands on his desk. “Please have a seat.”
You did so and looked up at him with a warm smile on your face.
“Miss L/N.” He started, “I have spoken with the staff here and have shown them your resume; which is very impressive, as I mentioned before at the teachers conference.”
“Thank you, sir.”
“One of my teachers here seemed awfully interested in your application and also put in a good word for you.” He added.
“Oh?” You asked curiously, “do I know this teacher?”
“It’s possible that you may have met him, he was there at the teachers conference.” Nezu replied.
“Him? Oh god…. no… it can’t be…”
“He has asked if he could conduct the interview today, as you will be working as his assistant, should you pass his test.”
“Why do the gods despise me?”
“He said he would be in shortly, he just has to make sure his class is behaving before coming in. He teaches class 1-A.”
You immediately heard Kaminari’s voice echoing in your head.
“Suspended if we are late…”
Your heart rate, that was already half way through a marathon without you, started beating even faster and you took some deep breaths to try and calm down before he entered the room.
“Are you, ok, Miss L/N?” Principal Nezu asked, noticing the subtle change in the expression on your face.
“Oh yes. Fine. Just jetlagged.” You lied, only telling half of the truth, “and freaking the fuck out right now but let’s not unpack that emotion.”
“Would have been here earlier if my class were more compliant.” A dead voice said as the person you feared the most, yet seemed weirdly attracted to, entered the office through the door behind you.
“Miss L/N. This is our class 1-A teacher, Mr Shouta Aizawa.” Principal Nezu proclaimed proudly.
“Hi.” You greeted him, extending your hand to shake his as you turned to face him mechanically with a dead smile, grinning with absolutely zero emotion.
“No, ‘pleased to meet you?” He asked dryly.
“We have met before.” You said with barely masked terseness in your tone of voice.
“Which encounter are you referring to?” He asked with a dead expression in his face, “the one in the hotel room or—.”
“OHHHH-KAY,” you said loudly, cutting him off from saying any more, annoyed that he was about to expose you like that.
“Shall we get started?” He asked dryly as he walked over to principal Nezu’s desk and looked at the small chimera creature.
“Please.” Principal Nezu said brightly, offering his seat to Aizawa before climbing up under the hero’s grey attack scarf and popping his head out the top.
“I—.” You stalled.
“First question.” Nezu announced.
“Why do you think you are suited for this job?” Aizawa asked pointedly.
“Well.” You said, your voice quivering slightly before you cleared your throat and continued, “as you can see on my resume—.”
“Dont think you’re the perfect fit for this job because of your resume. What appears on paper is completely different in reality. I expect a lot for my students and even more from my assistants so let’s start again.” Aizawa said pointedly, making you retract slightly by his straightforward and blunt manner.
“This fucking, fuck needs to—.”
“Why do you think you are suited for the job?” He asked again, his unwavering yet dead gaze unnerving you to no end as he waited for your reply.
You hesitated.
“Are you deliberately trying to waste time?” He asked sharply.
“Excuse me?” You asked with indignation as you furrowed your brows at him. “Although you may feel like you have the command in this room I do not appreciate the tone of voice you are using with me. If you have something against me or you do not like that I am taking time to answer the question carefully then maybe I should leave now because I refuse to work with someone who doesn’t treat others with respect.”
Your nostrils flared as you breathed heavily, pursing your lips and doing your best to stare him down as he gave you an emotionless look in return.
There was a moment of tense silence then he gave the smallest smirk and reached his hand out over the desk to you.
“You’re hired.” He said in his usual apathetic voice.
“I—, sorry, what?” You stammered, your annoyed expression fading as you leaned forward and shook his hand.
“I won’t repeat myself. You heard what I said.” He commented blandly as he stood up. “Come with me now, you start today.”
“I—, today?! But umm…”
“Do you want this job?” He asked pointedly.
