“May I ask, once again, where we are going, and what you need my help with?” he asked in a very bored tone.
“I’m taking you to Recovery Girl,” you replied frankly.
“If this is in relation to my acting differently. You can rest assured I am not,” he replied in a lowkey vexed tone- he had obviously had enough of peoples comments.
“And I can assure you, that you are acting differently,” you replied in a stern tone, matching his.
“I think I would know myself well enough to know that I have not changed,” he replied in a dark tone.
“Ok fine,” you snapped, spinning to face him in the empty hall, “what do you remember about us, Aizawa?”
His eyes travelled your face, looking for something, something that you couldn’t decipher.
“Are you implying a romantic relationship, when you say ‘us’?” he asked in a low tone, still warily watching your face.
“Yes, indeed I am.” You didn’t mean for it to sound so pissed, but your anger was masking some deep hurt and that’s just how it was going to play out in that moment.
“We,” he started, “do not have a romantic relationship. Our relationship is strictly professional.”
“No.” You shook your head. “This is how I know that there is something wrong. We have been intimate multiple times now and you remember nothing.”
“And I know that you are lying because not once have you addressed me by my first name. If we were truly dating, you would have called me by Shouta.”
“I… but I did try and call you Shouta yesterday and you told me not to and plus…we.. we were only just newly dating… it had only been a few months… if that.”
“And now you’re trying to backtrack because I’ve caught you in a lie,” he replied calmly yet still lowkey annoyed by this whole thing.
“No, I’m telling the tru—,”
“Stop wasting my time, Miss L/N,” he said sharply, his rise in tone stabbing you in the heart.
The hurt look on your face must have shown, despite how much you tried to hide it and when he turned to leave, you lashed out, extending your quirk and grabbing his arm with your hand.
“No,” you said in a quivering voice, “you’re coming with me. I won’t have you like this.”
“Let me go.”
“No.”
“Then I must use force.”
“You can try, but I’m telling you now that I am hurt. I am pissed off, and I am a woman on a mission. Don’t push me right now because I’m about to snap.” You meant every word and he could see that.
Holding steady for a second, it looked like he was about to fight you but then he nodded and relaxed, allowing you to lead him by the arm to Recovery Girl’s office.
She greeted you both kindly and you dragged Aizawa in then closed the door and stood in the way, worried that he might try and escape before receiving treatment.
“What can I do for you?” Recovery Girl asked.
“A number of people, and myself, believe that Aizawa is under the influence of a quirk and we would like to you either confirm or deny this; and if it is revealed that he is indeed under the control of a quirk, please tell us how we can reverse it.”
Recovery Girl nodded and looked at Aizawa.
“How do you feel?” she asked him.
“Fine,” he replied.
She then looked at you. “What makes you think he might be under the influence of a quirk?”
Briefly, you told about the patrol day and what had happened, promising that you had student witnesses on hand that could write statements on what they saw- if Recovery Girl deemed it necessary.
She nodded and thought for a second.
“Anything else?” she asked.
“Miss L/N claims that her and I were dating prior to the incident,” Aizawa stated bluntly and you nearly died on the spot.
Recovery Girl’s eyebrows shot up and she looked at you for confirmation.
You were well and truly put on the spot.
“Uh, umm, uh… yeah, yes well I… that… that is correct but it wasn’t public knowledge,” you stammered.
“Conveniently,” Aizawa replied cooly from where he was standing next to the examination table.
You shot him an annoyed look as Recovery Girl stood there- still reeling from the sudden development of new information.
“Please… if you could keep this information to yourself,” you said to her, “it appears that this quirk might be memory based?”
“Well it certainly appears that way,” recovery girl mused, “Aizawa, do you remember the incident on patrol the other day.”
He very briefly spoke about the patrol and did indeed remember the incident but couldn’t remember shaking a woman’s hand, like Midoriya had mentioned.
Recovery Girl nodded and looked back at you.
“Leave him with me and I will do some ringing around.”
You nodded and gave her a small smile. “Thank you kindly, Recovery Girl. I really hope you find out what has happened.”
“Do not worry,” she said as she walked to the door to open it for you, “I will have him back to normal in no time… and then I expect there will be a public announcement.”
You scratched your cheek shyly and looked away. “Well… I… I do hope so as well but it takes two to tango.”
“Indeed it does,” she replied with a chuckle, “come back later today and I will fill you in on what I have found.”
“Thank you again,” you said, stepping out the door and bowing to her. As you straightened, you saw Aizawa watching you but it was with those same lifeless bloodshot eyes that he looked at everyone with, and your heart crumpled a little.
“I just want him back. I want him to remember everything we had. I want him to come and hold me and tell me everything is going to be alright…”
As the door closed on you, you turned to leave but heard Aizawa speak.
“Recovery Girl. I do not know why Miss L/N feels the need to lie but we have never been in a relationship nor will we be in a relationship. I could never see her as anything more than a co-worker.”
Something wet hit your cheek and you reached up to your face, surprised to find that you were crying.
“Well shit… this isn’t good… I can’t go back to the classroom crying…” But the more you tried to stop the tears, the more they came, until your body was adding in sobbing cries to the mix.
