You don’t even really remember what happened that night. Vaguely, you recall going out with your girls, meeting this really hot guy, going to a hotel room with him, and then the next morning you had snuck out before he had woken up.
You didn’t tell anyone about it at first, because, A) you weren’t even supposed to have gone out that night in a foreign town, and B) you were pretty sure the guy you had gone to bed, with was a hero, and you didn’t want to accidentally start spreading stories about him having a one night stand.
You only knew him as Shouto and he was there for a work assignment, that’s all, it was no biggie… so you ticked it off as a ‘well that happened’ and prepared to move on with your life.
But when you missed your period that month, and took a pregnancy test, and found out you were pregnant- well… that changed just a few things.
It took you a few weeks to come around to the fact that you were carrying this guys child, and that you would be a single mum, but once you warmed to the idea, you were quite excited.
During the early days, when you found out you were pregnant, you started to get phone calls from unknown numbers. Naturally, you never answered them, and they never left messages so you thought they were just spam – and so ignored them.
But as your belly grew, and people started to find out that you were with child and the father was a secret, things started to get stranger.
You felt like you were being watched but you didn’t know if it was just pregnancy hormones that were spiking your paranoia so you tried to ignore your gut feelings and just live as normal a life as possible despite the constant nagging in your gut.
One time, at work, you received a bunch of flowers with a note “I know about the baby.”
“Know about the baby? What the heck? Yes? Ok? Everyone knows about the baby? Who the heck sent this?!” You thought as you read the small note over and over, “who sends a message like this?”
But no one ever came forward and admitted to sending the flowers so it remained a mystery… an odd mystery.
It was late one night that you found yourself walking to the corner store on a pregnancy cravings run, when you felt like the streets were quieter than usual. You slowed, looking around and placing one hand on your belly, that was standing straight out front. Your steps faltered for a second and you wavered.
“Should I just go back home?” You thought, feeling more and more uneasy.
From the shadows nearby you thought you saw some men in black suits disappear back behind a wall and your guts seized up.
You stopped walking and stood for a moment.
Your eyes flickered to the store ahead, then back to where you thought you had seen the men, and decided that making a, well, kinda waddling run for the store, would be a better idea than turning and waddling all the way back home. The store potentially had more people in it and so you could get help there, there was less of a chance of being kidnapped with other people around.
So, gathering your courage, you made for the store and got inside without any problems.
Calming your beating heart, you walked to the isle that had the food item you were after, then, after getting some packets of -said food item, you slowly walked around the store to bide some time and work out what you should do next.
You had thought that maybe there would be more people in the store… but there was no one . Just you… you couldn’t even see a cashier.
You sighed and headed for the back of the store to wait and see if anyone did come in.
It was a second later that you heard the door of the store slide open and a young guy walked in.
He had a hat and large sunglasses on but the way he carried himself oozed confidence and you couldn’t help but watch him through the shelves as he walked down an isle to the back of the store.
Surprisingly, he rounded the corner and walked straight over to you then stopped in front of you and you looked up at him.
“Hello Y/N,” he greeted in a monotone soothing voice.
The tone in his voice jump started a deep seated memory for you and you scrunched your brows together, trying to remember where you had heard his voice before.
He saw the look on your face and reached for his hat to pull it off.
He removed it, then his glasses, and you gasped.
“Shouto!” you whispered.
“I know about the baby,” he said in a low voice, “it’s mine, isn’t it?”
“I… I… uh… well, yes, you’re the only guy I’ve…”
“I am prepared to take responsibility,” he said with a small bow, “I have been trying to contact you but it appears I may have the wrong number as you never replied my calls.”
“The calls? Were they from a private number? Those were from you?” you asked, still in a state of shock.
“I have been trying to contact you subtly but it appears I am not good at being subtle. That is why I am here now,” he said.
“Did you sent the flowers?” you asked, connecting all the dots.
“Yes,” he stated.
“Oh-kay that makes a lot of sense,” you said, “umm, but Shouto, You’re a hero, right? and this… is probably not going to look good for your public image, I—.”
“The night we made love…” he started, making your tummy flip with sudden embarrassment at the way he started his sentence.
“Uh… I-it’s fine, umm it was a one night stand, don’t think anything of it…” you said, waving your hand dismissively.
“No. I want to get to know you and I want to support you. It is my duty,” he stated firmly.
“S-Shouto, I… I don’t really know what to say?”
“Give me a chance to prove myself,” he asked.
“Umm, ok,” you said, placing a hand on your belly.
“You look beautiful,” he then added, a softness entering his tone as his beautiful eyes fell to your belly.
“I feel really heavy,” you admitted randomly, your eyes leaving his to look out the shop window at the other end of the store, “oh… actually.” You remembered the men you thought you saw. “I do need a little help, I think I’m being followed, I saw some men in black suits hiding in the alleyway as I came here and I’m worried that I—.”
“Oh. My apologies, they are with me, I had been keeping watch to ensure your safety and well-being,” he admitted with a bow, “please allow me to see you back to your house safely?”
“Oh…. In that case…yes please.” You smiled at him.
He nodded and offered you his hand, then linked your arm with his as you stepped in beside him.
Your heartbeat increased as he walked you to the front, paid for your food, then took you outside to his limousine.
You talked minimally on the way to your place, then he let you out and sad goodnight and you were left to think about everything that happened.
………………………..
Over the next few weeks, Shouto was present. Although he didn’t talk much he did seem to care about what had happened between you two. He said he had intended on talking to you on the morning after the night you spent together but you had left before he had the chance.
“Would you accompany me to my house in the mountains?” He asked one night as you two were having a quiet hot drink in your place.
“That would be nice,” you said with a smile.
“Good. I will come and pick you up Friday afternoon,” he said with a nod then took another sip of his drink, breaking eye contact slightly to sip before gazing back at you.
You tried to hide your smile but he could tell you were happy.
“Is there something you want to say?” he asked.
“Why do you ask that?” You asked him.
“I am not very good with social cues but you look like you want to say something?”
“I-I’m just… I still don’t really know what to make of all of this but… why me? You didn’t need to try and track me down or anything. It was one night, out of town…”
“I am aware,” he said calmly, putting his cup down, “but… although we shared a very short intimate time together I felt something… like I had found the person who I wanted to be with for the rest of my life. I did not mean for us to create life, but when I tracked you down and had found you with child… I knew it was mine… and to me… it was a sign.”
Your heart melted and you softened as he reached out and took your hand.
“Let’s pursue this. I want this to be forever,” he said lowly as he leaned in to you.
He was intending to possibly kiss your cheek, but you turned your head to make sure your lips met his… and that’s how you stayed, kissing gently on the lounge as his hand rested gently on the side of your belly.
