You were panting. Sweat pouring down your face. You steadied yourself for the next round of combat.
“You ready?” Your opponent asked.
“Bring it.” You replied with determination.
He smirked. “I’ve raised a badass.”
He lunged forward and you countered with a flurry of palm blocks and finger strikes, meticulously countering everything he threw at you.
Your father, a Wing Chun grandmaster, was a force to be reckoned with, especially when he was hell bent on bringing you up to his level.
You faltered for one split second and he broke your defense and struck you in the neck causing you to collapse from the sudden stroke to the pressure point.
He was breathing heavily, you knew you had given him a good round that time.
“THAT’S MY GIRL!” Be bellowed scooping you up and wrapping you into a bear hug. “You’re improving out of sight!” He beamed. “Did you use your quirk at all?”
“Of course I did dad.” You said sarcastically, rolling your eyes “because I had all the time in the world to determine your moves… OK, OK, I DIDN’T EVEN GET A CHANCE TO ACTIVATE!” You yelled.
He laughed a hearty laugh.
He was your idol, your confidant, your mentor. Your dad had always backed you. He loved you and you knew it. You wanted to make him proud.
“You’ll make an amazing hero.” He said, still grinning from ear to ear. “I had always wanted to be a hero but it just wasn’t to be.” He sighed and put you down.
His quirk: ultrasound. Allowed him to see inside people, but he could only use it when he touched someone. ‘Not exactly useful in a slugfest.’ He had said.
Your Quirk: Sonography was an upgrade of his ultrasound quirk. By Vibrating your eyes you could see inside people but from a distance. Unlike your father’s, your quirk activated from your eyes instead of your hands. This allowed you to watch an opponents muscle fibers and you could see the muscle twitch a split second before they moved. Giving you an advantage in a fight.
As with most quirks yours had its offsets. You could only maintain activation for 20 seconds before your eyes started to tire. It took a lot of focus for you to activate your quirk. If you went beyond 20 seconds you would be left with heavily blurred vision once the quirk was deactivated.
If you tried to activate again through the blur you would immediately black out. You were still conscious and could move, talk and hear but you just couldn’t see a damn thing for 3 minutes. Fatal in a real fight. Which is why you needed to be quick and end fights within 20 seconds. (if you were using your quirk)
Your father was a martial arts specialist and on top of being a Wing Chun grandmaster he had also taught you Taekwondo. You were a black belt.
“I think we’re done for today.” Your dad smiled down at you. “Time for dinner!”
“FINALLY!” You screamed, taking off towards the dojo doors. You were famished.[Next day]
“I think Nagisa is cuter.” Ochaco said with a glint in her eye. “Karma scares me a little.”
You were talking about the latest episode of Assassination Classroom as you walked home from school.
You and Ochaco parted at the crossing and you picked up the pace as you headed for home. You had group training at the dojo with a few other Wing chun students and it was looking like you were going to be a bit late. On arriving home you quickly changed into your uniform and headed for the dojo doors. You could hear your Dad introducing someone.
“Oh, a new student?”
You pushed the door open and stepped in.
“T-Todoroki?!?!” You squeaked. He just held eye contact and didn’t move. 6
“Oh welcome Y/N.” Your father said with a smile. “This is our new student Shoto Todoroki. He’ll be in our care from now on.” He gestured to Shoto who was standing beside him.
You just stared.
“Umm, yes I know Todoroki. He’s in my class at UA.” You said numbly. Neither of you breaking eye contact.
You father glanced at the two of you then dismissed Todoroki. Todoroki walked towards you and took his place beside you.
“WHAT? Why did you choose to stand next to me?!”
You glanced at him from the corner of your eye. He had a relaxed but alert demeanor. He was tall too! Was he always this tall??? Surprisingly his presence made you feel safe.
The lesson went well. Your father was instructing and you stole glances at Todoroki as you both practiced some simple forms. He was a fast learner. He had good control and near perfect technique.
“As expected from someone who got into UA by recommendation.”
A few times when you quickly glanced across at Todoroki you caught him watching your form.
The next few weeks continued the same. School and training. You had been silently hoping to build a bit of a friendship with Todoroki but no such luck. He would come to training, complete the lesson then leave, all without saying a word on most days. The only progress you had with him was he always chose to stand next to you and whenever there were sparring session he would watch you intently. 90% of the time during lessons he was keenly interested in you. Which, to be honest, made you feel pretty happy.
“Ok! Todoroki and Y/N come to the front please.” Your head snapped up.
“Me?!” You managed to squeak out.
“Yes you.” Your Father replied with a small chuckle. “Time for some sparring.”
You both turned to face each other. His heterochromic eyes watching your every move.
“How can I concentrate with those goddamn gorgeous eyes burning into me!?”
“Bow and begin.” Barked your dad, snapping you out of your trance.
