To: Shoto ❤️
“Hey are you ok? Look I’ve found something that might explain today, I’ll send you a screeny.”
You attached a screenshot of the article you had just read and pressed send. Almost immediately Shoto came online and saw your message then started typing. The typing took forever. Finally his reply came back.
From: Shoto ❤️
“Y/N, I’m so sorry to do this but I don’t think we should see each other romantically for a while. Please don’t contact me outside of school. I care about you too much. Please stay safe. ❤️
Your heart sank.
Reply: Shoto ❤️
“What do you mean by this? Can we at least talk about it?”
You typed the message numbly. Not understanding what went wrong. “What did I do?”
Shoto saw your message but never replied. You sat on your bed, tears streaming down your cheeks. “Why?” You screamed internally.
You opened Snapchat and snapped Ochaco. She replied straight away after seeing your tear stained face with ‘PLZ HALP’ captioned across the picture.
Ochaco: “who did this and where do you want me to hide the body!?”
You: “This is serious, I think Shoto just broke up with me????”
Ochaco: “HE WHAT?! WAIT IM COMING OVER!”
It wasn’t long before Ochaco burst through your bedroom door. You started bawling again. She raced over and grabbed you into a hug.
“Y/N! What happened?!” She asked, concerned and hurt on your behalf.
You sniffed and started the story from where Shoto was having an arranged marriage, you told about your half sister’s involvement and information regarding her quirk. Ochaco asked to see the messages from Shoto and furrowed her brow in concentration.
“Y/N I don’t think this is the end with Shoto, there are too many hidden messages here.” She pointed to your phone.
“See here where he says. ‘I care about you too much.’ You leaned over to look at the phone and nodded. “You wouldn’t say that to someone you’ve just broken up with would you?” She said.
“Well… I wouldn’t, but maybe that’s Shoto’s way of lessening the blow?” You queried.
“No I think he’s just trying to figure out how to control his quirk.” Ochaco said, reading over the message again. “You said that it seems to be stemming from his overwhelming emotions. When he sees you, his emotions get the best of him. That’s why he wants to keep his distance… so that he doesn’t hurt you. He’ll stay away until he can hold himself together.”
She reached out and held your hand. “He cares about you Y/N, please don’t lose hope.” She smiled at you. You burst into tears again.
A knock at your door interrupted the mood and a familiar irritating head poked through the crack. “So he finally broke it off with you huh? Told you he didn’t want you.” You jumped up and kicked the door closed. Not caring if she had time to move her head or not.
“Half sister?” Ochaco inquired.
“Half witted dumbass more like it.” You growled.
“She’s the one with the enhancement quirk?” Ochaco asked again.
“Unfortunately.” You replied.
“Ok well anyway let’s talk about how you’re going to deal with this at school, y’know? ‘Cause Shoto is kinda in the same class as us soooo….” Her voice trailed off.
“Yeah.” You sighed. “It’s gonna be mad awkward.” You looked glumly at the floor.
“Maybe not? I’m here aren’t I? I’ll protect you!” Ochaco’s enthusiasm started to rub off on you.
“OK so what’s the plan?” You asked, plopping back down on the bed beside her.
“OK SO!” She started.
Ochaco stayed and chatted with you until you were feeling slightly better. You had a plan in place for tomorrow at school so at least you felt like you had your feet back under you but unfortunately you never got the chance to put your plans in motion because when you arrived, Shoto wasn’t even there.
“He will be away on leave for 3 weeks for specialized training.” Aizawa-sensei had told the class.
“Maybe Ochaco was right?!” Your hopes were rising. “I’ll wait for you Shoto… I’ll be here with open arms if you’ll take me.”[time skip- 3 weeks]
No one knew you had been counting the days till Shoto’s return. Your heart punched your ribcage mercilessly from the start of your walk to school, till you reached the gates, then it kicked it up a notch. “What!? Now along with the thunderous heartbeat I have black splotches pulsating my vision?! Thanks. Thanks a million body.”
You scowled, trying desperately to calm your heartbeat. It calmed ever so slightly until you saw duel coloured hair flash through the crowd of students ahead. You nearly had a heart attack. “HE’S here, He’S HeRe OmG, DyInG, PlEaSe SeNd HeLp.” You clutched your chest. Your head whipped around as you tried to find somewhere to hide. Ochaco appeared beside you and dragged you into a nearby empty classroom.
“I know! I know!” She hissed as you desperately tried to make it known that THE Shoto Todoroki was at school after 3 long weeks away.
“Y/N! Get a hold of yourself! Breathe!!” She demanded. “We got this! It’s ok, just ignore him unless he speaks to you then just reply with a polite ‘hello’ and keep it movin’ babe.”
“Ready?” She asked once you had taken a few steadying breaths.
“Ready as I’ll ever be.” You replied with determination.
“Good! Follow me.” And with that she marched out of the classroom with you trailing her.
You both made straight for the classroom and separated as you neared the desks. “Crap! I totally forgot I sit right next to him!!”
As you sat down at your desk you noticed a piece of paper sticking out from underneath the lid. Gently you pulled it out.
‘Y/N, please meet me on the school rooftop during lunch. I need a word with you. Signed- Shoto.’
You nearly died. You refused to make eye contact with him as he sat down beside you at his desk. He watched you but didn’t try and speak to you. “Do I go??? Do I meet with him?”
You didn’t even hear any of the classes that morning, you were too preoccupied with the letter. Finally the lunch bell rang. You stayed seated and beckoned for Ochaco to come over once Shoto had left the room.
Quickly you told her about the letter, she urged you to go so you did. You ran! You skipped 2 steps at a time as you flew up the stairs. You threw the iron door open and squinted heavily as the bright sunshine hit your eyes.
He was there.
