He backed up a little and eyed Kyoka. She played dumb.
“You ok?” She asked, tilting her head innocently to the side.
“So did you wanna get some cold soba with me?” She asked again.
Shoto thought for a moment then replied slowly. “Plans for dinner have already been arranged. I must decline.”
“Hooo? He’s stronger than I thought.” Kyoka mused. “Ok.” She shrugged. “Another time then. Hey does your girlfriend Y/N like cold soba?”
Shoto frowned. “Don’t know.” He replied curtly, wary of Kyoka now.
“You like her a lot don’t you?” Kyoka added.
Shoto remained silent, thoughts of you flooding his mind. Kyoka was hoping her question had put Shoto in the frame of mind she needed and her eyes flashed purple again.
Shoto felt that rush through his core again. “What is this?!” He glared at Kyoka. “This sensation is a lot like what I feel when I first see Y/N. Kyoka’s quirk is ‘Enhance’ but what does that have to do with this??”
“Is this your quirk?” Shoto growled.
“Shit he’s onto me!” Kyoka blinked, feigning innocence. “Sorry? I don’t know what you’re talking about?” She said innocently.
“I think you know damn well what you’re doing.” Shoto said through gritted teeth. “If you want to duel, I’m ready.”
“Wooaaahh hold up boy I don’t want to fight you.” Kyoka raised her arms in surrender.
Shoto straightened and walked past her back towards the house. “Don’t use it on me again or there will be consequences.” He called back over his shoulder.
“Tch.” Kyoka clicked her tongue against her teeth in annoyance. “I’ll just have to make it more subtle.” She followed Shoto slowly back to the house.
Dinner was as awkward and stiff as you would have imagined. Shoto was determined to make it the worst dinner ever. He was cold, borderline rude and non-conversational. Kyoka had a hard time trying to find openings to use her quirk. “I can’t use it in this environment.” She frowned. “I need to get him in a good mood.”
The night wore on and dinner finally came to an end. Endeavor organized another dinner for the following weekend, much to Shoto’s chagrin. As he was saying goodbye to the guests, Kyoka quickly lent forward and kissed him on the cheek. He jumped back in surprise, only just catching the last glint of purple leave her eyes. “She’s determined! But why?? And what is the full capacity of this quirk?” Shoto had so many question.
The next day, Sunday, you and Shoto had decided to meet for a bit to chat about all that had happened the day before. You had so much you wanted to rant about and you were also curious as to how he went with the dinner. More importantly how he stuffed up the dinner!
You were skipping your way to the park near his house, deep in thought. He saw you coming and got up to walk towards you. As he got closer you noticed a contorted look on his face and he collapsed. As he fell he put his right arm out to catch himself and a large splay of ice shot towards you. You jumped out of the way and instinctively punched it, shattering it into a million pieces.
“Y/N!!” He screamed. “STAY BACK! I DON’T KNOW WHAT’S GOING ON!”
“ARE YOU OK?” You yelled at him, still keeping your distance.
“…..no…” he replied weakly, his head bowed.
“Shoto?” You called softly. He lifted his head. “What are you feeling?” You urged.
“Just…. overwhelmed….I think.” He replied, fear in his mismatched eyes.
You activated your quirk and checked him over, he was tense. That’s about all you could make out.
“Y/N!” Shoto called suddenly, snapping you out of your thoughts. “I have something I need to tell you.”
He pulled himself to a standing position. “I…. I-.” His left side interrupted his sentence as it burst into flames. You lifted your arm to shield yourself from the heat. It was intense.
“I can’t DO THIS. Y/N I’m so sorry, I can’t see you today, something is wrong.” He backed up slowly then turned and ran.
You tried calling him back but to no avail. Dejected you turned and made your way back home. Kicking rocks and looking sullen. Kyoka was waiting at the front door, a smug look on her face.
“Did you break up with your boyfriend?” She sneered, seeing your saddened look.
“No.” You shot, staring her down.
“Then why the long face?” She had an evil glint in her eye.
“None of your business.” You snapped, clearly irritated.
“Could he not control his quirk or something?” She sneered again.
“YOU DID SOMETHING! DIDN’T YOU?!” You reared your arm back ready for a punch.
“Uh uh! I wouldn’t do that if I were you, you need to be nice to me if you want to know what I’ve done.” She said condescendingly.
You ground your teeth together but lowered your arm. You just stood and glared at her.
“Oh but I won’t tell you right away!” She laughed manically. “What do you think this is?! This isn’t a game Y/N.” She walked down the path and out the gate. “Laterz loser.” She called over her shoulder.
You marched inside. “Time to get serious.” You got to your room, threw yourself on the bed and whipped out your phone. “Time to research enhancement quirks and their limitations.”
You scanned a few online encyclopedias detailing enhancement quirks then stumbled upon something interesting.
You slowed as you read. “Some enhancement quirks can be activated just by the user looking at their target. A sub-group of enhancement wielders may have the ability to enhance their targets emotions. These users develop a purple hue to their iris while the enhancement quirk is in operation. They can only affect their target if they are within sighting distance. The only way to compete against an enhancement quirk is to keep calm. If there are no emotions available, the quirk will be ineffective.”
“Hmmm.” You mused out loud. “Purple eyes hey? I wonder….”
You opened a message to Shoto.
