Your eyes scanned the packet over, doing a little jig on the spot there to stop yourself from peeing your pants.
“Ok, so instructions are straightforward enough. Pee on stick, wait 3 minutes, one line negative, two lines positive. Done.”
Quickly you pulled one test out of the packet and undid the wrapper, then followed the procedure for taking the urine sample, then sat the test on the bench to wait.
“Surely I don’t have to wait 3 minutes?” You thought as you pulled your pants up and flushed the toilet before looking over at the little window on the stick.
There was one line but the test hadn’t completed yet and you were impatient to get going.
“See? One line. Not pregnant. Awesome.” You thought with a sigh of relief that was tinged with sadness. “Well off I go to the game then.” You continued to internally monologue as you threw the pregnancy test in the bin then washed your hands and left to go to the game.
You had been gone about 30 minutes before Dabi walked in to use the bathroom. He had just finished up with his interview and had been accepted into the college so he was keen to get to the game to give you the good news.
He had intended on going to the loo before heading for the school to watch your game but the slightly opened top draw caught his attention.
“I’m sure I shut that.” He thought as he pulled the draw open to look inside. “Oh, that’s right, pregnancy tes-WAIT! IT’S OPENED!”
His hand shot into the drawer and he pulled out the packet and opened it, it had indeed been used and there was a test missing from inside.
“Shit, she took a test. Was it positive? Where is it?”
He dropped the packet back in the drawer and immediately dove for the bin nearby, holding the small bin up in the air and shaking the contents around so he didn’t have to put his hand inside.
It didn’t take him long to reveal the test and he shook the bin till the test turned over so he could see the window.
“2 lines? What’s 2 lines?”
He dropped the bin back down and grabbed the pregnancy test box again, quickly reading the back to determine what 2 lines meant.
“Holy fuck.” He yelled internally when he read the meaning of two lines, “oh shit, fucking, fuck, fuck, she’s pregnant?! She’s fucking pregnant?!”
He slapped a hand to his forehead and stared at the positive test for a few minutes, shocked beyond words.
Suddenly reality hit him and he dropped the test back into the bin.
“She’s at the game. SHE’S AT THE GAME. WHY THE FUCK IS SHE AT THE GAME?!” He screamed to himself as he tore out the bathroom and towards the front door. “Why didn’t she tell me? I swear to god she’s going to hear it from me, so fucking irresponsible. I’m gonna be a dad, holy fuck?!”
His mind continuing to loop as he sprinted for the school.
……………………………….
The game was well underway and it was 5 all.
“We got this, one more point, one point at a time.” Your captain yelled encouragingly as you all reset for the next rally.
“I’m feeling good today.” You thought as you bounced on your toes a few times to keep your legs loose. “Wonder if Dabi will be here soon? did he get into college?”
The whistle blew and your attention went back into game mode, waiting for your teammate to serve from behind you.
“Give us a nice serve!” You called over your shoulder to your teammate as you crouched slightly, eager to get back into it.
You waited patiently, hearing them bounce the ball twice before tossing it up in the air and smacking it across to the opposite side of the nets.
You watched the opposite team scramble to get under it and send it back and you stepped forward to receive it, should the setter drop it up close to the net.
“I’ve got this one.” You thought as you ran forward, expecting to save a setter dump but at the last minute the setter set to a spiker and they angled it directly at you.
You didn’t have time to react much but reflexively you arched backwards and moved your arms up to your face, hoping to stop the ball from smacking you fair and square between the eyes.
Unfortunately you miscalculated the angle and the ball, instead of going for your face, hit you forcefully in your lower abdomen, making you shout in pain and collapse to the floor, clutching your guts.
You heard the whistle blow and a few gasps and ‘ohhhh’s’ from the bystanders as you fell to your knees, doubled over in pain.
Some of your teammates quickly ran to your side and placed comforting hands on your back, asking if you were alright, then you heard a familiar voice yell your name sharply form the sidelines.
You looked up from where you were still on your knees on the court, your pain stricken eyes meeting the horrified eyes of your boyfriend, Dabi, as he ran towards you.
“Hey.” He said sharply as he got to your side through the crowd of teammates and wove his arm up under yours and helped you up. “This can’t be happening.” He muttered to himself, “of all the fucking things that could happen.”
“Dabi?” You whimpered, “what are you taking about?”
“Like you don’t know?! Fucking irresponsible.” He growled angrily as he dragged you, limping, off court.
“Hey, are you ok?” Another of your teammates asked as she jogged up to you.
“She’s NOT ok, so back off.” Dabi snapped at your teammate. “I’m taking her to the infirmary.”
“Woah dude?” The teammate replied, raising her hands up in surrender, “chill.”
“Fuck your chill.” He snapped again as he continued to lead you out of the gym.
“What’s going on?” You gasped in pain, trying to limp as best you could beside him. “That hit really hurt.”
“Of course it fucking hurt! You’re so fucking stupid, why didn’t you tell me?!” Dabi snapped, swinging you around so you could face him, anger etched onto his face.
“What the fuck, Dabi? I don’t know what the hell you’re on about?” You said, bursting into tears and crunching over again.
“I saw the test, dipshit.” He barked.
“The pregnancy test?” You sobbed, “it was negative? Why are you being like this?”
“It wasn’t fucking negative, it was positive!” He said angrily, “and now you’ve been hit!”
“What?!” You gasped, “no… no it was negative, I swear to you, it was negative!”
“Then tell me why, when I saw it, it was positive?!” He snapped. “We need to get to hospital.” He added as he scooped you up bridal style and started running towards the on-site nurses office.
