At the end of the session you were disappointed that he hadn’t opened up or anything.
“That was a bit of a waste of time wasn’t it? He didn’t even mention his family at ALL!”
You thanked the lady as you both stood and she cleared her throat as you turned to go. You both stopped and looked back to her.
“If it’s ok with you Mr Todoroki, I’d like to have a word with miss L/N?”
“Please call me Dabi.” He replied her with an almost pained expression, “Mr Todoroki is only acceptable when I start growing grey pubes.”
She didn’t even bat an eyelid.
“Ahh, so that’s when the name change happens, good to know.” She said with a wink.
“And yes you can have as many words with miss ‘no grey pubes’ as much as you like, I can personally vouch for her not having a grey pube to her n-.”
“Thank you for sharing, Dabi! Oh my god, just go… please!” You shrieked with embarrassment as you turned to glare at him.
He cackled and threw you a wink before leaving you and the psychiatrist alone.
You were buzzing in the face as you turned back to face her.
“I… I can’t even begin to apologize fo—.”
Don’t apologize!” She said with a chuckle. “I know his type and it doesn’t faze me.”
“Ok I’m glad because he can be a bit of a shameless flirt with a sharp tongue and a dirty mind.” You said with a sigh. “You did handle him well today I’m impressed..” you said, leaving the sentence somewhat unfinished.
“But?” The psychiatrist asked, noticing that there could be more to what you were about to say.
“OH!” You said sheepishly, “uh… how did you know I wanted to say more?”
“I sensed it.” She replied with a chuckle.
“Oh right.” You laughed nervously. “Umm I was just wondering like, well… I’ve never been to a psychiatrist before and neither had Dabi but I kinda expected that he would… I dunno… talk about his feelings and have like… a bit of a breakdown? Then be better? I dunno.” You said, avoiding eye contact because of how stupid you sounded.
“There are a lot of misconceptions about what we do.” Mrs Dokiatsu replied gently. “Some people come barging in here, opening themselves up instantly and pouring their hearts out. But then there are others, usually the ones that don’t particularly want to be here, who take a while to talk about themselves.”
“Dabi is the latter I assume?” You asked.
“Yes, your Dabi has a lot of stuff going on internally and as you mentioned earlier, he hasn’t seen anyone about it so it will take time.” She said with an encouraging smile. “All I wanted to do was thank you for supporting him in his journey and remind you that time and patience are key here. He will get there.”
You smiled.
“Thank you.” You said gratefully. “He’s a sweetheart underneath it all so I’m happily sticking around.”
“Glad to hear it.” She said with a chuckle. “I’ll see him and you next week.”
You left her office and met Dabi in the waiting room.
“What did you think?” You asked as you two left.
He shrugged. “Yeah, it’s alright.”
“Better than ‘I hated it’.” You thought with a smile.
……………………
Weeks passed and Dabi was getting to the point where he was looking forward to his weekly chats with Mrs Dokiatsu. She was very good with him and he didn’t feel pressured at all to open up but little by little he was telling her bits of his experience.
Your heart ached for him, he had been through a lot and it made you want to protect him all that much more, knowing his past and how strong he had had to be, to survive.
The match between Nekoma High and Ubugawa High was drawing close too and a decent amount of time was spent in the school gymnasium practicing non stop for the up-coming clash.
Dabi was confident he and his team had what it took to win but knowing him all that better now you could tell some of it was a bluff. All the previous matches with Ubugawa had ended with Nekoma losing and it was starting to psych the whole team out.
“You’re coming to watch, yeah?” He asked as you walked home hand in hand one afternoon.
“Of course?!” You snorted.
“Oh! Yeah that’s right, you and I are gonna do it on the court after we win, almost forgot about that.” He sneered.
Can you go 10 minutes without cracking some kind of dirty comment?” You sighed.
“I can go WAY longer than 10!” He snorted. “I can maintain for about 40 minutes then I gotta busy a nut y’feel?”
You groaned as he cackled beside you.
………………….
It was now the day of the match and you had been thinking about your and Dabi’s relationship a lot lately, you had seen a change in him since he started getting help and although he was still that dirty minded Dabi there was a quietness in his soul that wasn’t there before.
You had a surprise for Dabi after his game. He had stopped talking about marriage but you had been thinking it over. You really did like this guy.
“Hey boys my lucky charm is here!” Dabi called loudly to his team mates when he saw you enter the stands and take a seat.
You shook your head, trying to look embarrassed but the smile on your face gave you away.
He smirked and threw you a kiss from two fingers, spreading them as he held them out to you, giving you the peace sign.
“Ohhhh.” A group of girls coo’d as they walked up beside your row of seats.
“I’m so glad I came to today’s match, the head of Nekoma’s team is here, god he’s sexy as fuck isn’t he?!” One girl said. “I’d give anything for Dabi Todoroki to nail me over the ball trolley.”
Your head whipped to the side to glare at them but they were too transfixed on your man to notice the seething look in your eyes.
Dabi glanced up at you again and smirked, he was just happy his girl was here. Then he noticed the dark look on your face.
“What’s up with Y/N?” He thought as he picked up a ball and did a few practice serves over the net.
“Oh fuck,” a different girl groaned, “wish he would slap my ass like he did with that ball.”
“Sum bitch wants to die today.” You growled internally as you continued to eye the girls.
