Boop; I Love You Chapter 19: Suspicions

Deciding to take matters into your own hands you followed Shinsou to school, trotting happily along behind him until he happened to notice you and stopped. 

“C/N, you’re not supposed to be coming to school with me today I already told you that!” He said, slightly exasperated. “What if you get found and they take you away from me! I don’t want that!”

“Yeah but I miss you and I don’t want to be home by myself again today.” You meowed as he picked you up.

“Ok fine, but you might end up having to hide in my locker for a bit though… or I’ll figure something else out…” Shinsou mumbled to himself. 

You stopped yourself from nodding and settled down in his arms, enjoying being held by Shinsou all the way to school. 

As you neared the school gates, Shinsou unzipped his jacket and put you inside then zipped it up again, the usual drill, trying to look as inconspicuous as possible as he made his way to the locker room.

“Ay! Shinsou!” Kaminari called in greeting to the indigoette as he walked over, then he lowered his voice. “You got C/N with you today?” 

Shinsou looked around like a drug dealer about to make an exchange. “Yep.” He replied with a smirk. “Right here.” He pointed to the bulge in his top.

“Can I have a cuddle?” Kaminari asked as Shinsou unzipped his jacket a bit. 

You popped your head out.

“Oh hey there cutie!” Kaminari coo’d, scratching you under the chin. 

“I don’t want to be in anyone else’s arms except Shinsou‘s.” You meowed at Kaminari.

Just then you saw Kirishima and Koda (you knew most of the classmates names by now) making their way over to Shinsou and you shrank back further into the jacket. 

“Awwww you bought C/N again.” Kirishima gushed. “That’s so manly of you to care about her so much you bring her to school frequently!” 

“She followed me.” Shinsou laughed. “She’s the funniest little cat.”

As Kirishima and Shinsou continued to talk, Koda reached out to you and you pulled back from him, avoiding eye contact and hoping he would just go away. 

You had seen him from a distance many times but this was the first time he had actually decided to come over for a closer look at you and although he looked friendly enough there was just something you didn’t like about him.

Koda continued to hold his hand out to you and you turned your head slightly and eyed him before looking over at Kaminari who had started talking to Shinsou. 

A few times Koda reached out to you and you looked at him briefly before looking away again but that was about it. He didn’t say anything and you were more interested in the other conversations surrounding you anyway. 

Later that afternoon Koda was sitting on the grass deep in thought when Tokoyami walked up beside him.

“You’re thinking about something.” Tokoyami commented as he pulled up next to him standing comfortably with his arms crossed, looking out over the playing field. 

Koda nodded his head.

“What is it?” Tokoyami asked. 

“Shinsou’s cat, C/N.” The animal loving classmate replied softly in his gentle, high pitched voice.

Tokoyami remained silent, giving Koda the cue to continue talking. 

“I….I don’t think C/N is a cat…” Koda said slightly confused, looking down as he tapped his two index fingers togther.

Tokoyami looked at him, slightly shocked by his words. “What do you mean by that?” 

“It….it didn’t respond to me.” Koda said softly and sadly, still looking at the ground. 

“Should it have?” Tokoyami asked, curious now. 

Koda nodded, “I used my quirk on it…and it didn’t work.” 

There was silence as Tokoyami tried to process what Koda had just said. 

“In what cases does your quirk not work on animals?” Tokoyami asked.

“If the animal is not an animal, as in, if it’s something or someone impersonating an animal… or if the animal is deaf.” Koda replied almost inaudibly, still confused by the whole situation. 

“Interesting.” Tokoyami replied, mulling over what Koda has just said.

At the end of the school day Tokoyami went looking for Shinsou and his cat but couldn’t find them.

“Kaminari!” He called, when he spied the blond heading towards the school gates. “Have you seen Shinsou?” 

“He left a while ago.” Kaminari called back, “why?” 

“I wanted to talk to him… and see his cat.” Tokoyami stated plainly.

“Man his cat is super cute, hey.” Kaminari sighed. “Wish I had a cat that cute.” 

“Kaminari…” Tokoyami said. “What if Shinsou’s cat is not a cat?” 

Kaminari stopped and looked at Tokoyami. “What do you mean by that?” He laughed. “It’s not a watermelon that’s for sure, I might be stupid by I’m not THAT stupid.” 

“What if it’s something impersonating a cat?” Tokoyami mused.

“Wait what? What makes you say that?” Kaminari asked, confused. “That’s the weirdest thing I’ve heard today… and I’ve heard some pretty strange things today trust me.” 

“I was talking with Koda earlier and he said he used his quirk on the cat and it didn’t respond to him.” Tokoyami replied. 

“So? What if C/N just didn’t want to reply?” Kaminari said with a shrug.

“When Koda uses his quirk, animals always obey, unless they’re deaf OR they’re not really an animal.” Tokoyami said, crossing his arms across his chest. 

The hair on the back of Kaminari’s neck stood on end as he processed what Tokoyami was saying.

“W-well maybe C/N is just deaf?” He excused softly, looking for a logical reason for your not responding to Koda.

“Kaminari… that cat is not deaf.” Tokoyami replied. “And you know it.” 

“S-so what are you suggesting C/N is then?” Kaminari asked, slightly fearfully. 

“My best guess is that whatever it is… is a shapeshifter, disguising itself as a cat.” Tokoyami replied. 

There was dead silence between the two for a bit. 

“Dude…” Kaminari said. “Dude, are you sure because that’s a hella big conspiracy theory you’re pulling there.” 

“I’m just looking objectively at this but someone should talk to Shinsou.” Tokoyami replied with a shrug. “If his cat is not really a cat then he should be the first to be told about it.”

“Do you seriously think someone is shapeshifting into cat form and living with Shinsou?” Kaminari asked dubiously.

“Like I said, Kaminari, I don’t know. I’m only stating the facts from what Koda observed and he has suspicions that Shinsou’s cat is not really a true cat.” Tokoyami said again. 

“Shit man, I mean like… imagine if Koda is right….” Kaminari said, rubbing the back of his neck with a sweat dropped look on his face. “Ok I’ll talk to Shinsou tomorrow and see if there’s some way we could work out if C/N really is a cat or not… without her knowing of course.” 

“That would be wise.” Tokoyami replied. “I’ll leave it to you.” 

And with that the raven looking classmate turned and headed out of the school gates, leaving a slightly unnerved Kaminari standing alone, thinking about what had just been said.
