BNHA Second Generation Chapter 44: The Interview

While the pair were waiting for the interview to start, the TV cameras panned around and focused on the two heroes and the interviewer. Last minute white balance checks were done, and focus checks completed before the countdown timer started.

“T minus 10 seconds!” the floor manager called and the interviewer grinned at the two across from him.

“This is going to be a good interview. I am so excited for this.”

Suddenly the introduction music to Heroes Daily blared over the speaker and the interviewer jumped to life as the telelight on the middle camera lit up.

“Hello all! And welcome to a very special interview today with our most favourite top heroes. The Winged Hero- Condor! And, The Sensing Hero- Seismic Kana!” He turned from the camera and greeted the pair. “Good morning, Seismic Kana and Condor.”

“Good morning,” Hiyoko greeted politely, “it’s a pleasure to be here today.”

Kana smiled and did a small sign of greeting to the interviewer.

“Now recently I believe that you started dating?” the interviewer asked excitedly.

“Yes. It’s a privilege,” Hiyoko said with a grin at Kana- who had been told what the interviewer said.

“I am lucky to have Hiyoko as my boyfriend,” Kana signed, letting Hiyoko translate it and repeat it to the interviewer.

“You are both very sweet. How long have you known each other?” The interviewer asked, settling back and getting comfortable in his chair.

The pair started telling stories of how they had met in kindergarten, and Kana got to tell the interviewer how it had almost been love at first sight for him since Hiyoko’s voice was the only voice he had ever heard in his life. 

“And so you were inseparable ever since?” the interviewer probed.

“Pretty much,” Hiyoko replied casually, “we did all of our schooling together and then trained together as heroes. On the weekends we would hang out as well.” 

“Kana,” the interviewer asked the sensing hero, “I believe you were the one who admitted your feelings first?”

Hiyoko quickly asked Kana the question through his feather and Kana nodded, signing his response which Hiyoko replied out loud.

“He says that he did admit his feelings first and then I ran away,” Hiyoko paused to have a little chuckle, “but then I did come back to him and return his feelings. Which is true,” Hiyoko interjected, “it just took me by surprise.”

“And what is it like working together now as a couple?” the interviewer asked, “do you ever get worried that the other will get hurt during a mission?”

“Kana always knows who and what is around him- he is the sensing hero after all,” Hiyoko said, giving Kana an endearing side glance.

Kana then signed, after hearing the question from Hiyoko.

“Hiyoko is strong and fast. I have never had to worry about him during a mission. He does like to eat a lot of junk food though.”

Hiyoko chuckled at Kana’s sign and relayed it back to the interviewer.

“He says he doesn’t have to worry about me on mission but he says I eat too much junk food and that worries him.”

The interviewer laughed.

“We must be twins, Condor. My boyfriend says I snack too much too.”

The pair shared a good chuckle before the next question was asked.

“Do you have any fond memories of Condor, Seismic Kana?” 

Hiyoko relayed the question and then translated Kana’s sign.

“He says ‘it was the end of the first day we had worked together as heroes. We had chased criminals all over town and it had been really hot. At the end of the day we got ice cream and then Hiyoko flew us up onto the roof of a tall building and we sat there and watched the sun set’.” Hiyoko paused as Kana stopped signing then added his own bit. “And you know what’s funny?” The winged hero mused. “The building I flew us up onto is the building we now use for the agency.”

“How serendipitous!” the interviewer gushed.

“And if I remember correctly,” Hiyoko continued, talking out loud and internally to Kana as well, “that was when we made the pact that we would always be together- at that point it was in relation to friendship and work.”

Kana nodded, “I knew I wanted more back then. I wanted to date you but was too shy to say.”

Hiyoko’s eyes widened when he saw what Kana had signed.

“Kana just said that, that point was when he knew he wanted us to be together! Well I’ve just learned something new,” Hiyoko spoke aloud as well as telepathically.

“Oh! An exclusive!” the interviewer gasped dramatically.

“Exclusive for me too,” Hiyoko said, making sure to say it internally as well for Kana.

The sensing hero grinned and the other two chuckled.

The rest of the interview went very well and after the segment had finished Hiyoko and Kana stood and shook hands with everyone, thanking them for their kindness and help.

“You’re a wonderful pairing,” the interviewer said as he saw them off, “I wish you all the very best in your relationship and in your hero work.”

“Thank you,” Hiyoko said happily, “give my best to your boyfriend and try not to snack too much.”

“And same for you, don’t eat to much junk food,” the interviewer replied cheekily. 

“I’ll do my best,” Hiyoko chuckled.

The hero pair left, walking side by side out of the building and back to the office.

It was on closing time when they arrived back at the building and there was only a little time to talk to the students before seeing them off and telling them to be in early the next morning for the mission.

“Bakugou,” Hiyoko suddenly called as the students were leaving, “a minute of your time, please?”

The blond nodded and stood still refusing to look at his classmates again as they slunk away.

“Ready for round 2?” Hiyoko asked him cheekily once the other two had left.

Chi smirked. “Bring it on.”

Hiyoko quickly turned to Kana who was standing there idly.

“I’m just going to train Bakugou again but head home. I uh… was wondering if it’s ok if I drop by afterwards?” Hiyoko asked Kana shyly.

“Come over,” Kana signed, “I’ll be waiting for you.”

“Ok, cool,” Hiyoko replied then turned back to Chi, “ok. To the roof again. Off we go.”

“I’m so excited for tomorrow!” Jinny squealed to Soshi as they walked home together again, “I’m gonna look so cool in my outfit. Brian is super stylish! I might take some pics too so I can show them to Kiru.”

“Not that I care,” Soshi interjected, completely off topic, “but Chi has been held back twice now… why?”

“Oh. Yeah, I was meaning to ask him why but got really distracted by everything else,” Jinny chuckled, “I’ll ask him tomorrow.”
