2 hours later the small team of heroes and students arrived at the headquarters of Mr Hima Dofu.
“Good morning,” Condor greeted the receptionist, “we have an appointment with Mr Dofu this morning.”
“Oh gosh! Condor!” the receptionist gushed with awe, “I am a huge fan. I’m so happy for you and Seismic Kana! I have been rooting for you to get together ever since day one. I’m even part of the HyoKana fan club!”
“What is she saying? You removed your feather.” Kana signed to Hiyoko, tapping him on the shoulder to get his attention before doing the hand actions.
“Ahhh. she umm… she says congratulations to us,” Hiyoko replied sheepishly with a blush.
“That is not all she said,” Kana signed back cheekily “I was able to lip read a small portion.”
“Oh w-were you? Uh. ” Hiyoko chuckled shyly, “w-we can talk about it later…”
He then turned back to the receptionist.
“Thank you for your support.” He smiled, giving the lady a small bow.
“But of course!” she replied joyously, “allow me to lead you to Mr Dofu’s office.” She happily led the way up to the owner’s ofice, then knocked. “Mr Dofu, your appointment is here.”
“Show them in please,” an elderly voice called.
The door was pushed open and the team stepped inside.
“Oh?” Chi said with surprise.
Mr Dofu looked like he was 200 years old. His very wrinkled skin made him look a little disturbing while a light glow surrounded him.
“Good morning, Mr Dofu,” Hiyoko greeted candidly, leading the way in in front of all the students, “do excuse the intrusion.”
“Not at all, not at all,” Mr Dofu replied as he walked back over to his desk and sat down.
Hiyoko watched the elderly man closely then smiled. “An emitter quirk,” the winged hero commented.
Mr Dofu nodded, “it is a quirk cancellation dome. It’s a force field that prevents quirks from affecting me.”
“Smart,” Hiyoko replied, “I’m assuming for protective purposes?”
“Yes,” Mr Dofu replied, “the only drawback is, when I activate it, it ages me. So although I am only in my 40’s… my body age is 305.”
Jinsei pulled a face as something weeped from the Mr Dofu’s drooping eye.
“I see,” Hiyoko said, clearing his throat, “we have some questions regarding the thefts from your shops, as of late.”
“Ah,” Mr Dofu sighed, “yes…”
“Do you have any suspects?” Hiyoko asked.
“Well… a few. There have been a few ex-employees who would love to see my demise…”
Hiyoko looked at Soshi.
“Todoroki, would you like to ask any questions?” he asked, smiling encouragingly at the white haired student.
“Yes.” Soshi nodded at Hiyoko then directed his question at Mr Dofu. “could you please tell us about the employee’s?”
“Certainly, young man,” Mr Dofu replied, “the one who I suspect the most was one of my managers. Very nice man, helped me a lot when I was starting out. We were very close and then he asked if we could partner with the businesses but I said no. He was asking for 60% of the shares!”
Soshi nodded and waited for Mr Dofu to continue.
“We had a big fight and before he left he told me he would get even. He would see me go broke… “
“Mr Dofu, did your manager have a quirk?” Jinsei asked.
“I… I’m pretty sure he did, but we never really discussed quirks. I’m sure you’d be able to find it on his employee sheet.”
“Do you still have the sheet here?” Jinsei asked excitedly.
Mr Dofu nodded and got up, walking over to the filing cabinet.
He opened it and spent a little time going through all the tabs but he couldn’t find the employee he was looking for.
“I… I’m sorry, it’s not here? I could have sworn it was still here?” He said with confusion lacing his elderly voice.
“The guy probably stole it,” Chi commented more to his classmates than anyone else, “that’s not suspicious at all,” he added sarcastically then spoke up to Mr Dofu, “what’s the ex-managers name?”
“Kujin Akuto,” Mr Dofu said.
“You got a pen and paper?” Chỉ asked Jinsei, who was beside him- leaning his head in towards hers so he could whisper in her ear.
“Who uses a pen and paper?” Soshi snorted from the other side of Jinsei, “here in the future we use notes on our phones.”
Chi moved his head forward and scowled at his friend as Soshi pulled out his phone and made a note of the ex-managers name and a few other pieces of information about the guy that might come in handy later on.
“Mr Dofu, would you please tell us about the other people who had threatened you or that you otherwise might be suspicious of?” Hiyoko asked, gesturing to Soshi to take notes.
All up the team spent around 2 hours there, asking as many questions as they could and Jinsei was elated that she felt like she was on a real mission.
“Can you text me your notes?” The brown haired girl asked Soshi as they were all leaving Mr Dofu’s office a little later.
“Sure,” he said with a smile, copying the notes and texting them through to her.
“Oi,” Chi grunted, “me too.”
“I’m sorry? What was that?” Soshi asked knowingly with a small cheeky smirk playing on his lips.
“Send me the notes,” Chi mumbled unhappily.
“Where are your manners, Hocky?” Soshi berated, using Chisuki’s childhood nickname.
“Don’t call me, Hocky,” Chi growled, “fine. I’ll make my own notes. I’ve already memorized the names.”
“You have?” Jinsei asked with surprise.
“Yeah.” Chi started rattling them off one by one.
“Wooow, that’s pretty cool, Chi,” Jinsei gushed, “I wish I had a good memory like that.”
Chi smirked proudly as he walked beside her, “I can teach you. There’s a special technique to it.”
“Yeah! Please do, I’ll text you the notes anyway but you gotta teach me how remember stuff, ok?”
“Done deal,” Chi replied proudly.
“It’s not even that cool,” Soshi mumbled to himself, pushing his phone back in his pocket.
While the students bantered in front, Hiyoko and Kana were following behind, having their own conversation about what they should do next, in regards to the mission.
“We need to cross check the backgrounds of all of the workers to see if any could be involved,” Hiyoko said to Kana telepathically, “either that or find out who could be targeted next, but we can get the worker information from the store itself. Might do that after sending the students home earlier with homework.”
“That is a good idea,” Kana signed, “but. The only thing I am thinking about right now is how much I want to kiss you.”
Hiyoko blushed and looked away, hiding a smirk.
“Maybe it’s my turn to pin you against a wall and kiss you, hey? We have to make sure we’re even…” he replied deviously.
Kana smiled bashfully as Hiyoko gave him a cheeky side glance- the pair sharing looks all the way back to the agency.
