Hiyoko was the first to arrive at his parents place that evening. He swooped down onto the doorstep and tucked his wings in, dropping that last little bit to the ground and doing a few jogging steps to come to a stop at the door.
“Mum?” he called as he turned the handle and entered.
“Hi baby,” Mrs Takami called out, “come on in!”
Hiyoko’s wings vibrated with delight as closed the door behind himself and trotted into the house with a big grin on his face.
Following his nose he made his way to the kitchen and inhaled noisily as he walked through the door.
“Something smells good,” he remarked with a smile, walking over and engulfing his mother in a hug.
“It’s the chicken,” his mum chuckled, “your father insisted we have chicken.”
“It’s not a meal without chicken,” Hawks said as he walked in from the other door, “hey Nugs.”
“Hey dad,” Hiyoko greeted, letting go of his mum so he could hug his dad.
“Where’s Kana?” Hawks asked.
“He’s coming… I think… I thought he might have beat me here but I guess these wings have speed.”
“Wings will always win,” Hawks replied with a smirk, “did you see Bri and Anthony on your way over?”
“Nope?”
“They’re probably still getting the cake,” Hawks mused, “Bri was going on about how the cake had to be blessed first before it came here.”
“Will uncle Bri ever calm down?” Hiyoko asked with a laugh, “he still has so much energy.”
“If I could bottle his energy I’d make millions selling it,” Hawks said with an amused glint in his eye, “it’s good to see you again, bud, you’re looking well.”
“Thanks dad,” Hiyoko said with a smile, “I’ve been hitting the gym a bit more.”
“Yeah your arms look very defined,” Hawks mused.
“Back muscles are pumped as well!” Hiyoko added.
“Having a dig, are we?” Hawks mused with a chuckle, “you know my back muscles are lacking.”
“No… no, wasn’t having a go just mak—,”
“Haaaaayyy!!” A flamboyant voice called from the front door and everyone in the kitchen had their attention immediately drawn there.
“Hey Bri,” Hawks called out, “come on in, did you get the cake?”
“Did I get the cake?” Brian asked with offended sassiness as he walked in and held up the beautifully decorated box, “honey, this ‘cake’ is hallowed! Did I get the cake- he asks? What’s this man doing asking such questions. Anthony tell him, baby.”
He pointed to his man with lips pursed, doing a small click of his fingers before pouting sassily and waiting for Anthony’s reply.
“He got the cake,” Anthony said in a deep voice, standing beside Brian.
“Lord, doesn’t anyone appreciate in this house?! This is not just a ‘cake’,” he said, doing sassy finger quotation marks around the word cake, “this is the embodiment of love and light. THIS is a masterpiece made by Sherry O’shahney, BeyoncĂ© bless.” He flicked his hands around and rolled his eyes to the ceiling. “Her pieces of art INFLUENCE. Timeless, absolutely timeless! And this man says ‘cake’, lawd.”
Anthony just gave everyone in the kitchen a very apologetic look as Brian touched his fingers to his forehead in dramatic defeat.
Before anyone could apologize to Brian for using such basic terms for the ‘masterpiece’ Hiyoko sensed Kana arriving and his eyes lit up.
“Kana’s here,” he said with a smile, wings vibrating a little as he deployed a feather and floated it off around the corner, trying to locate his friend as he followed after it.
Brian smirked as Hiyoko left then nudged Anthony.
“There’s going to be some love tonight. I can feel it in my bones,” he whispered with sassy excitement.
“I hope Kana confesses,” Anthony whispered back.
“Confess?!” Hawks asked with surprise, overhearing the quiet conversation with his sensitive hearing, “Kana has his eyes on Hiyoko?”
“Oh, baby, yes he do. And he’s going to tell him his feelings tonight!” Brian squealed softly.
“Ohhh,” Mrs Takami purred, “how sweet, oh I hope everything works out!”
“Don’t you worry, honey bunny, I have my glitter ready,” Brian replied.
“Lord, no,” Anthony groaned.
…………………………..
“Hey!” Hiyoko greeted Kana as the sensing hero walked into the house.
“Hi,” Kana signed with a smile.
Hiyoko didn’t want to make it obvious but his eyes naturally detailed what Kana was wearing, the black ripped jeans doing wonders for the shapes of his thighs.
“Come in…” Hiyoko said, pulling his gaze back to Kana’s face, “everyone is in the kitchen.”
Kana nodded and followed his friend, his eyes being drawn to Hiyoko’s muscular back which was on display with the tight white shirt he was wearing.
“He looks good,” Kana thirsted internally.
“Hi Kana!” Everyone in the kitchen signed as Kana and Hiyoko entered.
“Hi,” Kana signed back, smiling at everyone, he looked around the room then spotted the cake on the bench, “is that a Sherry O’shahney piece?” he signed.
Hiyoko laughed out loud then translated for everyone, “Kana just asked if that is a Sherry O’shahney—,”
Hiyoko didn’t get to finish his sentence as Brian screamed with delight- cutting him short.
“Brilliant, brilliant!” Brian signed ecstatically, “god! Tell him I love him, Hiyoko!”
“Brian says he loves you, I’m assuming because you know about the cake maker?” Hiyoko said to Kana.
“I buy her art all the time,” Kana signed back.
“He called them ‘art’,” Hiyoko said with a chuckle back to Brian, “he said he buys them all the time.”
“This is my son,” Brian said as he sashayed for Kana’s side and slung an arm around his shoulders, “you are now adopted.”
Chuckles rose around the happy little gathering as Hiyoko told Kana through the feather what a Brian had said.
As more light chatter happened, Mrs Takami and Hawks got dinner ready, laying the food out for the others to see; and while everyone was eyeing off the delicious spread as it was placed out then carried into the dining lounge Kana and Hiyoko were taking peeks at each other.
“Come and sit,” Mrs Takami invited, smiling as everyone sat down around the table, “please eat. There’s plenty of food.”
“We must pray!” Brian said loudly, holding his hands up to stop everyone from digging into the food, “hold hands, please, we need to make a positivity chain around this table.”
Obediently everyone held hands, Hiyoko reaching for Kana’s before the sensing hero had a chance to preparing himself for Yoko’s soft hand in his.
“Hallowed BeyoncĂ©,” Brian began, fluttering his eyelashes as he closed his eyes in reverence, “we are gathered today in memory of two queens who SLAYED when they were here with us on earth…”
