Bakugou shook his head so Kiri opened the message from Bakugou and sent a reply.
Bakugou’s phone dinged. Message from:
Sunshine baby ❤️
“Awwwww!!!! My third nickname” Kiri blushed as he looked over to Bakugou’s phone. “And it’s such a soft nickname!”
“Tch. My phone autocorrected it to ‘sunshine'” Bakugou lied, he didn’t like looking so soft but truth was he was smitten.
Kiri smiled. “Keep it, I like it.”
Later that night Kiri opened the message from Bakugou again and copy pasted Kami’s number into a new message,
“Hey Kaminari, this is Kirishima, Bakugou’s boyfriend.” Kiri smiled at writing the boyfriend line. “I have someone’s number here that you might want… but just wanted to ask you something first.”
He hit send and waited.
Almost instantly Kami sent a message back.
“Oh, hey dude! Who’s number is it? What did you want to ask?”
Kiri smiled and started his reply.
“It’s a guy named Hitoshi Shinsou… I believe you know him?”
Kiri hit send and waited.
Three dots popped up multiple times then disappeared as Kami freaked out, typed, deleted, then typed again.
“Uh yeah…” Kami finally settled on as a reply.
Kiri laughed out loud as he typed another message.
“Are you guys ok?” He sent back.
“…..no.” Kami replied.
“Well, Shin is actually a good friend of mine so I just want to let you know that if I give you his number then you have to promise me that you will resolve whatever your differences are and be friends again.” Kiri typed.
“That’s my intention dude. I just hope he forgives me.” Kami replied honestly.
“I’m sure he will, I know Shin.” Kiri said, adding a little smiley emoji on the end.
“Thanks dude… can uh, can I please have his number?” Kami asked.
“Oh sure! It’s +456 722 145.”
“Thanks heaps, Kiri. I’ll let you know how it goes.” Kami replied with a peace sign on the end of his message.
“I hope they sort things out.” Kiri thought with a sigh. “And I hope Kami IS gay because they would make an awesome couple!”
Kami’s heart pounded as he sat on his bed staring at the new number on his phone.
“Do I ring or text?? There’s so much to say that calling would be better but I’m hella nervous and what if he hangs up on me?! but texting… he might ignore it and leave me on read and that would hurt…”
He groaned out loud trying to decide what to do. In his loss of courage he decided to just send a message and pray that Shin wanted to reconcile too.
Shinsou lay on his back on his bed, staring at the ceiling. A very old photo album lay sprawled out beside him with the book open to a page that showed him as a smiling five year old standing with his arm slung across the shoulders of a bright yellow haired boy who was grinning from ear to ear, holding his hand up in an enthusiastic peace sign.
He sighed hollowly as images of him and his best friend, Kaminari Denki- the bright yellow haired boy, flashed through his mind.
From the first day that they met to their last, sad, interaction in primary school. All laid out before him, playing like a reel from an old time movie.
“Hi. I’m Kaminari!” The bubbly blond five year old said extending his hand out for the purple haired boy to shake.
Shin looked up at the friendly boy. “Oh…” He said shyly, glancing at Kami’s hand. “H-hi..”
Kami grinned and wiggled his fingers to encourage the shy boy to shake his hand.
The purple haired boy’s eyes fell to the outstretched hand before him again and and he hesitantly reached out.
“See! There ya go!” Kaminari said brightly as Shin’s tiny hand fell into his. “What’s ya name?”
“It’s …Shinsou…” the purple haired boy said shyly, looking down as Kami shook his hand gently.
“Wanna be my friend, Shinsou?” Kami asked cheerfully.
“Oh s-sure.” Shinsou replied softly.
“Cool! Let’s go!”
More happy images flashed through his mind, his memory bank pulling forth the next scene that he will never forget.
“Hey, uh Denk?” 10 year old Shinsou asked as they laid back in the treehouse in the purple haired boys backyard.
“Yeah man?” Kami asked, tossing a ball up in the air and catching it as he lay on his back.
“Do you like anyone?”
“Uhh like, have a crush on any of the girls in the class?” Kami asked with a chuckle.
“No like, do you like anyone as in… have a crush on …anyone?”
“Yeah, you mean, a crush on a girl?…”
“No.” Shinsou said turning his head to look at Kami in the eye. “Anyone.”
Kami laughed. “Dude, what do you mean ‘anyone’?”
“Well, I know you like girls but do you maybe like… guys?”
Kami had thrown the ball up at that point and his hand froze as he tried to compute what Shin had just said, copping the ball directly in the face as gravity took over and bought it back down on him.
“Argh!” He yelped as the ball smacked him in the face.
“Yo?” Shin laughed. “You ok?”
“Yeah dude.” Kami replied with a light laugh, sitting up and rubbing his eye. “Why…uh, why did you ask if I liked guys?”
“Umm, no well, it’s not directed at you. I’m not saying that you look like you’d like guys but I’m just asking?”
“Yeah, but why though? Do you like guys?”
“Uh… yeah… I think I do…” Shin replied softly, avoiding eye contact.
Kami’s eye widened.
Shin grimaced the longer Kami took to reply.
“Hey.” Kami said softly. “It’s cool dude, it doesn’t change anything, you’re still my best friend.”
Shinsou’s eyes shot over to Kami. “R-really? You mean we’re still cool?”
“Of course, dude.” Kami snorted playfully. “Of course we’re cool!”
Shinsou sighed with relief. “Man, that’s been playing on my mind, hey. I was worried about your reaction.”
The two boys had continued to chat about it a little longer, with Kami reassuring Shin that they were still tight and he would keep it secret until Shin was ready to tell people about it.
The boys remained close still, even after that reveal. So close that they were spending almost every waking moment with each other.
