0-100 Real Quick Tips For Writing: Writing Kiss Scenes

Romantic kiss scenes:

Ok, so here’s a trick to writing a convincing kiss scene if you don’t have any experience yourself…

GOOGLE THAT SHIZZLE XD

Google is my saving grace oml.

Looking up sites like: cosmopolitan, girlfriend (does that even exist anymore?) or even just punch into Google “how to kiss” (go incognito mode though- if you want- just so that your search history doesn’t look stupid… like mine does :P)

I’m gonna just do a snippet of a kiss scene using these two steps/pieces of advice: Be hands on and Try the tongue.

He stepped closer to you, looking down as he closed the gap and your heart rate spiked in anticipation of what was to come next.

Expectantly, you looked up, soft eyes glancing at his lips as you parted your own gently.

“Y/N,” he whispered, one hand gently reaching for your upper arm as he started to bend his head down to yours.

As the tip of his nose gently brushed yours your  eyes fluttered closed and his lips tenderly met yours.

You inhaled his masculine scent, your right arm reaching up to the side of his face, feeling the stubble along his jawline as you ran your fingers to his ear and into his hair, completely lost in the feeling of his lips on yours.

[male] slid his hand up your arm and over your shoulder, cupping the side of your neck as his fingers slipped into your hairline, completing his embrace.

Naturally, you broke apart for a second, each taking a breath before your lips touched again, this time more purposefully as the tips of your tongues touched as well.

[male] tilted his head to the side, opening his mouth a little more as his fingers flexed into your scalp and his tongue delved into your mouth, sliding against your tongue as a small exhale through your nostrils signaled your enjoyment of such a move.

I know it was lengthy but with romantic scenes you want to slow it down a little and get the reader to really feel what is going on. Feel free to use what I’ve written above in your own books if you need a template 😉

If you do have experience in the kissing department then definitely write out your experience! No one will know it’s real (although, having said that, I’ve been caught a few times by readers saying “ok, author has definitely done this. It’s too real.” And I’m like … “am I gonna need a lawyer for this?” XD but in the grand scheme of things using personal experience (or other people’s experience) is the best way to write something and most of the time people won’t be able to tell.)

Lust Kissing scenes:

Ok, in lust kissing scenes there’s usually some degree of sexual tension there as well. Both parties are READY for the kiss and are craving it so when it comes time for the kiss to happen it’s usually on like donkey kong and things escalate quickly.

Use the -before the kiss scene- as your build up. Make sure you make it obvious that there is mutual sexual tension there: lots of glances at each other, biting of bottom lips and flirtatious eye contact etc…

Also- use silence to increase the tension just before the kiss:

Eg. Girl is in office room alone and male of interest walks in and sees her there.

“You’re still here,” he said in an erotically suggestive tone, his intoxicating stare making her go weak at the knees.

“Yeah,” she replied, holding her pose at the photocopier as she kept her gaze on him, neither of them moving as they locked eyes silently for a good 7 seconds.

He was the first to make a move, slowly stalking towards her with his eyes still locked onto hers.

“You’ve been making this difficult for me,” he whispered in a low tone as he got closer to her, not slowing down as she turned her body towards his.

“Have I?” she smirked, bracing for his impact.

Without warning he grabbed her by the hips and slammed their bodies together, his lips crashing against hers and their tongues immediately finding each other’s as her hand slid up into his hair and gripped firmly.

Matching her fervency his hands on her hips slid to her ass and gripped as he lifted her up and turned then sat her down on top of the photocopier, their make out session getting sloppier and messier by the moment.

See how it’s a little more fast paced?

Another note- romance scenes will often have innocent hand placement: on the cheeks, gently in the hair, on the shoulders, on the waist etc… lust scenes will have more daring hand placement: hips, ass, grabbing at shirts and ripping them open, nails dug into scalp or shoulders, up under shirts etc…

Settings:

For romance choose somewhere pretty, beautiful, or sweet.

For lust choose somewhere daring, random, or sexy.

If in doubt describe either eyes or lips.

Eyes for romance will often be soft, eyelids flutter closed, eyes will hold a gentle look, etc…

Lips will have gentle movements.

Eyes for Lust will hold sharp erotic stares or desperate looks with some kind of carnal undertone or primal glaze.

Lips will want to be bitten, smeared, licked etc…
