End with small cliffhangers, something that makes the reader want to scroll on.
It’s easy enough to do when you know how.
Example:
End with a conversation that needs a reply.
“So what now?” She said, panting
-end chapter-
– begin next chapter-
“We wait!” He replied, ducking low.
People will want to flick to the next chapter because you have left the conversation unended and the reader is like…
WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN?!
So they scroll on… good, keep reading my pretties *evil cackle*
OR
if there’s a fight scene don’t end it at the end of the chapter. Leave some to spill over to the next chapter to keep people engaged.
It’s hard to do this for every chapter but it’s always good to focus on that for the first few chapters to keep the reader scrolling, then from there they are (hopefully) involved in the plot line enough to scroll on on their own.
MLB224 TINGS-
Author-san… what do you write in your chapters??? < people used to ask.
So hereâs my secret.
I make sure I put in –
Something funny,
Something cute,
Something dramatic,
Or something sexy,
In my chapters đ if you have one or more of the above, itâs sure to keep people interested âșïž
How many words to write per chapter?
I got asked this all the time like it was some kind of magic formula lol
Me, personally, I like to stick to 1150 words a chapter but thatâs just because itâs a length that I know I can get done in a short space of time.
But Google says anywhere from 900- 2000 words a chap is good. Anything longer or shorter can either leave people feeling underwhelmed or overwhelmed but again- fuck the police- you do whatever the frick you want, babey, itâs your book!
I knew an author who wrote 10k a chapter… yes… you read that correctly.
10,000 words for the CHAPTER (not book, just one chapter.)
So like… youâre good… just write however many words you want.
